I'm planning on making a paintball cannon to shoot a 3/4" paintball. I am thinking of using PVC to build it, and ether (engine starter) to fire it. Would there be any issues to keep in mind? I was told by a friend it could blow up, or it would melt.

Can someone help me? IF YOU DON'T HAVE EXPERIENCE THEN DON'T TRY HELPING ME PLEASE!

I'm not too sure, but using ether would probably be very dangerous and would most likely just melt the paintball. By the way, how would you fire it with ether? And on a side note, what kind of gun do you have? I'm just curious as I play as well. I have a Spyder Compact, it's nothing great, but it works. I need a longer barrel though.

a paint ball cannon should be easy, ive made a potato gun that could send a spud through a brick wall.

oh, compressed air is proabably your best bet, easy to work with and it wont burn you

The thing to remember about a paintball is that the outer shell is soft and easily broken. Using a higher quality paintball would help, but if you use too percussive of a force (i.e. explosives) to shoot the painball, it will most likely break in the pipe.

Freezing the paintball first could alleviate this problem, but if you do that, I would be very careful not to shoot it at something that could shatter or bruise.

I don't have alot of experience with paintball, but I will try to help any way. What you are planning sounds like a potato gun for paintballs. My friends and I have had good success with phneumatic potato guns, being able to launch the potatoes futher distances with greater force than with the combustion types. the PVC idea is good, you will need some high pressure PVC for a base and an inlet to hook an air nosle to fill it up. the biggest problem we had was a quick air release. You could look the info up on the internet.
