I guess I'm new here! Ummm. I'm 15 & a Sophomore. Around school I'm known as "the hippie", and I take it as a compliment. I'm a huge fan of The Beatles, Hendrix, the MC5, & many other bands that I don't feel like listing, and you probably don't feel like reading about. I love to sing, & Janis Joplin is my biggest influence. In fact, I chose "Me and Bobby McGee" for a choir solo. I also love my 3 guitars.
Hey Lisa, Pretty cool musical tastes. Take the time to explore the one-hit-wonder groups and singers too. Lots of good stuff fell through the cracks in the 60s and no one today hears about them anymore. peace
Nice to meet you Lisa, and welcome. This a pretty cool place, but there are some nuts out there. Take it easy.
Lisa, Whenever you can, check out the writers behind the singers. Kris Kristofferson is a good one. He was one of Joplin's boyfriends, of course, and he wrote "BobbyMcGee". His "SilverTongued Devil and I' is a good starting point. Good song he wrote about Janis on it - "Epitath Black and Blue".
Yeah, Dylan's great. I think my favorite of his songs was "One more cup of coffee", even though it was a later one.
Just got back from shopping and found a new box set called A Box of Pearls - all of Joplin's album cuts plus some live stuff including two cuts from Woodstock. $30.
