Hey all, I just got this guy a short time ago. He is a top of the line hypo columbian boa. He is absolutely awesome. Extremely mellow and chill. He is for sure a hippie.

do you know much about snakes? I heard this news story once about a guy who went to feed his boar constrictor (not sure how you spell it) and it wrapped itself around his neck and strangled him! But I don't know much about em.

Baby snakes - an excellent song by frank zappa.Dunno - I had a bad experience with a worm when I was young and it left with me with a terror of things that squirm. He's got a groovy smile though.Kind of sleepy looking.Do they ever get tangled in knots? If I was a snake I'd probably be wondering where the rest of me was all the time.

I don't think snakes can knot, too much macrame potential there. Do snakes squirm? I thought you had to be slimy to squirm. Oh well.

Reptiles make the coolest pets. So mellow all the time. I love freddy and god, both so cute!

My friend has an iguana. A few years ago, he was growing a cannabis plant in the terrarium. Long story short, plant went bye-bye. Liz ate the shit outta that poor little plant. RIP plant.

This post was a couple months ago, and I just happened to look at some of my threads and found all the replies. I'm sorry I abandoned it, because I'm actually siked there's some interest from people and thanks for all the great compliments. I hope some of you who originally replied are still around and frequenting this board.

There is a story I know of. Twins who kept pythons (not boas) and one of them had been feeding them and failed to keep his hands washed after handling the food. Well, a snake really hunts by tasting the air.... That guy ended up dead. Honestly though I've never heard of someone being killed by a boa, though I suppose it's possible. They rarely get bigger than 10 ft. and not much heaver than 50 lbs or so. Boas are actually pretty gentle creatures. Mine has NEVER bit me and has never even struck or showed any aggression whatsoever. He's as gentle as can be.

Smiling...I'm glad you love him. He really is a cute little guy. Well, this boa is male and a "boa constrictor imperator". Most columbian boas you see for sale are of this species. The males don't get much bigger than 7 feet, and the females no bigger than 10.

The females of the "boa constrictor constrictor" species (From Surinam, Guyana and several other countries in that area) can get up to about 14 ft MAX but their average size is about 9ft.

When they get to be bigger than 8 ft or so, some people move on to feeding them rabbits or chickens, but I wouldn't do this. This guy won't get that big anyways, so probably the biggest prey he'll eat is large rats. BTW: I feed him pre-killed mice. They are frozen in my freezer. He likes 'em a lot.

Sweet gecko man! Those things are cool. I'm not so sure about him wrecking God. Freddy sounds scary but really he's just a chill dude.

Get one Liz! Like Whisperin' Woods said, they are so easy to take care of. Feed them once a week (and even less when they're older than 2 years). They poop only like once every 2 or 3 weeks. Only thing you really need to do is keep fresh water in there, keep the temps right and disinfect the cage occasionally. If you want some suggestions for some really cool smaller species of boas (4 or 5 feet at most) too, let me know.

Here are a couple other pics of Freddy

smiling... awww... Well I think you'd change your tune if you met and hung out with Freddy for awhile. Even people who are scared of snakes think he's cute. :)

Thanks for the compliment localhippy... He was a bit pricy ($1200) but nowhere near what some of the morph boas go for. A few are up well past the $20000 range. He is one of the best looking orange-tail hypomelonistic (a genetic trait meaning lacking black pigment) boas out there. I plan on trying to breed him if I'm still in the US a year from now. If not he'll be put on "breeder lone". He's gonna get some tail one way or another...

I don't think he knows me personally, but the more they are handled the more they get used to it and the calmer they get when they are held. As long as you move slowly he doesn't get scared at all around humans. Quick movements make them scared though (not in an aggressive way, they just jerk their heads back from the fast movement). Wild caught specimens are a little different story. They CAN (but not necessarily) be slightly more aggressive. How's France?
