Is it alright to call myself a hippie? I dont know... Saying you are a hippie is like saying you are a poser... Saying you are like the people in the 60s... I dont know, it always sounds like an empty statement whenever i say I'm a hippie.
if it rings false in your soul, you already know the answer. Others call me by that word, I use freak or I use it in a humorous way: "yeah, who would have thought a dirty hippy would wind up covering a Republican community?" I do live by some of the experiments of the 1960s. Some work, some didn't some worked for some people and not others. But the spirit -- find something that brings forth peace and facilitates understanding and challenges old assumptions -- that spirit dwells in me.
No, but its weird thou... Whenever someone else calls me a hippie i get satisfaction from it. Like it feels on the right path. (only if someones says it in a postive, of course)...
just dont call your self anything, its a lot easier that way. if thats what people want to call you let them. but saying something doesnt make it true or not true.
if it feels right even when yelled out of a passing pickup filled with yuppie chowderheads, you are on the right path.
We all spend much of our lives classifying ourselves. By religion. By politics. By reace. By income level. At some point we choose the name(s) for ourselves that best fits who we really are / who we really want to be. If the term "hippie" best sums up the things you beleive in most strongly, the values that mean the most to you, the way you would like people to think of you, then hippie you are, and good for you.
I hate labels so when someone calls me any label like "hey hippie" i'll just say something like "no im a human being labels suck" and that goes for when someone calls me by any label not just hippie. I find all labels do is segragate people and make people feel that they have to try and fit into the label society gives them which sucks.
my friends call me a hippie it doesnt bother me. Its all about how you see yourself right. Lables can be bad only if you let them.
