I was given Fentanyl, Demerol, and something called Phenergen (don't think Phenergen is an opiate) recently when I had a disgusting procedure done on my esophogus called and endoscopy. Sorry for grosing people out. They just stuck a thing up my throat to see what's wrong with my esophogus. Anyway, after they injected it, I felt REAL good, and real out of it during the procedure. The procedure took about 30 minutes. They didn't inject me with anything to pull me out of it (that I'm sure of), but an hour later (90 minutes after the injection), the stuff wore off, and I din't feel good anymore, annd regained my usual state of conciousness. Why did this happen? I thought Fentanyl was sposed to last a long time. Anyway, it was cool, and felt good, but I would never buy any of that stuff on the streets. It was just a once in a lifetime high. Isn't Fentanyl sposed to last at least 3 hours? Help anwsering that question would be appreciated.

It has a shorter life when its injected. I was injected with demerol and morphine when I got a biopsy, it lasted about 2 hours maybe a little longer.

Fent has a short half life. Which is one of the reasons they use it for short medical procedures. Fent is not active if taken orally, there is a "lollypop" for chronic pain patients, but the drug is absorbed by the oral mucosa, and it does nothing if you chew the lolly.

Fent wears off very quickly, sometimes the PDR and other medical books judge a half life on how long it appears in your blood, not by how long it is at it's peak.

I've had it for surgery while awake. Fent makes me puke. Bleh.
