What do you do when someone gives you a gift card from some place you don't shop at? (i.e. Starbucks, Walmart). My grand parents just sent me Walmart gift card for my birth day. My theory is, with Starbucks at least...someone already paid for it, so I might as well use it. I don't go out of my way to use it though. I might hold on to it for months, going to a Starbucks here and, when desperate for cafiene. :p But the Walmart card..I dunno. I mean, they already did buy it, and normally I wouldn't go there...becuse I don't like what I've read about them, and they are not an easy store to get to for me. :p But the alrealdy have the ten dollars. What do you guys do in a situation like this? Can I buy something, and get cash back when I return it? :p lol Or do they not do that with gift cards?

Unfortunetly if you buy something and return it, it goes back onto a gift card. Just buy a a movie or a video game or something, or snacks.

How about trade it. Do you know someone who got something similar or simply, someone with something they don't want of similar value?

No, I don't know of anyone I couuld trade with. Too bad. I like that idea. :p I thought of giving it to a shelter, a homeless person, or person in need, too. That seemed like a pretty cool idea. :) Then my other idea was, since I got it I might as well use it...someone is probably going to ask for something for Christmas that could be bought from Walmart. Or I'm always seeming ot loose my travel mugs...so I could buy another one to have as a spare. :p But I can get two for that price at this cool camping/army surplus-ish store that's independently owned. :p

Take what Drummin' said one step further. Buy a warm coat with it and give it to a homeless person.

A REAL homeless person, not some fool with a funny sign on a median strip.

dude you'd be helping walmart if you DIDNT spend the money. the card would go out eventually and they'd make ten free dollars without losing stock. so go spend it on a popular item (no slow movers) and take back money from the corporation

Yeah, I figure if you don't use it...then just get a whole ten bucks for nothing. :p

There are some online exchange groups for unwanted gift cards. I haven't used any of them but I'm sure you could find them with a search.

    Good luck!

I got Wal-Mart gift cards, too. Usually my parents would buy them off me, but this year I'm going to use them because my parents always use them to buy things even worse than just buying things at Wal-Mart. So I figure I may as well use them to buy things that are better than the alternative.

I made the resolution that from now on I'm going to request that nobody send me gift cards anymore. I mean, they're just money that doesn't work as well.

Hey, it's already been bought, Walmart already made their money. Might as well use it. But make sure to let your grandparents know about your feelings. May not stop them from shopping there, but at least this situation won't happen again.

Buy something with it, take it back, and get your money back (-= (say it wasn't what you were looking for)
