I was just wondering... when should I start looking for seed pods under the plant? Also, does the plant REALLY have to be Heavenly Blue, or can it be other kinds? Does it really matter if I get the shells off the seeds, or can I just throw it in a grinder and grind it really fine and drink it like that? AND How many pods should I get for 250-300 seeds?
they're just these crumbly pods all over the plant. I dont really know when to look in relation to how long the plants been growing or days for the cycles, but we got a ton from some vines just at the end of summer, early fall.
The pods ought to be the size of chickpeas or small marbles Harvest them when the stems around them have gone brown. THat way you know they'll be nice and ripe. And believe me, if you're growing a good strain, you'll only need 50-70 seeds. Also, while it's flowering, steeping the flowers in just enough water to cover for a couple days creates a slightly alchoholic and psychoactive wine.
So how did the harvest go. I am interested if its really worth it to grow the morning glory plants for a large enough harvest or not.
I watched a tractor trailer load of corn unload a few days ago (yes I live out in the boondocks), any way, there were thousands MG seeds coming out with the corn. These were either Ipomea purpurea (sp) or the annual field MG. I also know that most folks think that it has to be heavenly blues or or flying saucers and most folks are WRONG...I know from experience. There easy to get when ya know where to look.
ya the pods are like marbles, you could probly hit the plant with a stick and pick up the little seeds off the ground,
