    Heya all,
    I'm fairly new here :)
I got a question.. See I got all these great recipes for lipbalm and stuff, but I need beeswax! I can't find it anywhere, so what's the secret?
    Help!
    And thanks in advance :)

get some beeswax candles.... you might have to melt them down or shave them off, depending on what form the recipe is asking you for (liquid or solid)

make sure you don't add the wick to your recipe though ;)

you could also look around on the net for local beefarmers. I used to get all my wax from a local beefarmer for a pretty low cost... but it was unrendered, so it took some work to get it "useable".

www.mountainroseherbs.com sells beeswax from oregon bees
that's where i get mine & it is nice & dark, & minimally processed
it comes in a big block, so you'll have to shave or grate it (which is what i do), but do NOT use your food grater b/c the beeswax will 4ever be there. just by a cheapo grater & use it for beeswax only

i think he was refering to the fact that I typed Bee Farmers as one word... beefarmers.... althought what a BEEF armer is I don't know. maybe someone who gives guns to cows?

knock it off IG. to render in apathocary terms is to heat and separate.
now with beeFarmer and render cleared up,
the local HFS sell expensive blocks of beeswax in the bulk herbs section.
other sources are apiaries (bee tenders) and crafty stores.

yeah, but i would avoid the craft store since you're wanting to make lip balms & stuff. the craft store beeswax is usually HIGHLY processed (hence it's whitish appearance instead of the natural dark yellow)
i guess you could go that route if you HAD to, but mtn rose should be able to help you out. it's affordable, high quality, & they're an AWESOME small company run by super kynd folk! :)

so white is not the colour I would want to buy? some bees guy told me to go with white..
and are beeswax candles an option or?
I'll check out mountainrose but I'm in the netherlands so I'm afraid shipping is gonna cost me!

well, i always heard the white stuff wasn't the best, but i'm sure the bee guys would know better than me!!!
i once ordered some from frontier coop & it was white & dull looking & didn't smell as strongly, but the wax from mtn rose was fragrant & a gorgeous golden color...it just seemed better to me
you're right though the shipping might be extreme!
oh & i personally wouldn't use the candles (no telling what else might be contained)

I'll tell the bees guy you said that :)
I don't think candles are the best too, I;m sure they'll contain some nasty stuff

    thanks!

you can find pure beeswax candles at a health food store
but, whatever, if you don't wanna take advice then don't.

dude, didn't mean to offend you, I'm just afraid to buy something of which I'm not sure cause there will most likely not be a list of ingredients on candles..
    I'll check it out, thanks
