In the form of a few simple questions for everyone.

If you're not going to impeach a president who incarcerates without charges or representation, supports torture, maintains clandestine prisons in foreign countries and runs a secret spying program on citizens in violation of the law then what's it going to take?

What kind of a nation do you want to end up with?

What kind of nation do you think you'll end up with if you sit on your asses under these circumstances?

    What's your opinion of totalitarianism?

You can write your congressmen, demonstrate in the streets, act through impeachbush.org and do whatever else you want that's legal and doesn't hurt people and I encourage you to do it.

But I also have another suggestion. There needs to be grassroots intolerance at the most basic everyday level. Every mundane encounter and conversation with anyone you happen across needs to turn into an incessant diatribe against Bush and company's assault on the sanctity of American values that just WILL NOT QUIT. At home at school at work in communication with anyone and everyone. Those you know and those you don't know. Every single day at every single turn.

    ***

PS hope you all are proud of the free airtime you've given Stonecircle. Just next time use your brains and let dead meat rot peacefully. And so the stench doesn't waft my direction.

I appreciate your intent but the fact is that everything a person reads and hears has at least the potential to affect attitudes and actions. That's why you've got to stand up for what you see as right otherwise others will walk right over you.;)

Yes but I have no desire to contribute to the longevity of his thread and if you don't want to contribute to the longevity of mine then don't post here. I don't patronize stuff I don't want to see hanging around. In fact I hope you will continue to post here and I'm not trying to put you off but to just make a point.:)

  6. I am appreciative that somebody was prepared to post a thread in response to Stone Circle's pro-war sentiments, but I feel perhaps SDK's approach is maybe too strong, perhaps totalitarian is an accurate way to describe the US government but people aren't going to listen to it because they'll think you're a crazy hippy - i'm not saying your wrong, I just think peace supporters should try and level with the conservatives, as they are the real minds you have to change.

Anyway, in support of SDKs argument - It might sound crazy to you pro-war people, but there is reasonable and non left-wing extremist evidence to suggest that the Iraq war is not a war of freedom but a war of vested interest. Admittedly my knowledge of the war only extends to the popular media, local and interstate newspapers and several documentaries, but from what i've gathered in Australia, particularly as we enjoy more journalistic freedom (but not much more) than the US, is there are some basic facts that are overlooked in the argument that the Iraq war is a justified one. You only have to do a bit of reading or thinking to find out.

As a citizen of the UK there is a war alright, between Muslims and the rest of the world.

I'm not pro-war at all but Saddam had to go. He killed 100s of thousands of people and if that is not justification for war in itself then I don't know what is.

The reasons for Blair and Bush to go to war may have been wrong (looking for arms, wanting the oil) but the fact is they were right to do so. Really Saddam should not have been left alone after invading Kuwait, thats the truth.

Iran have now started creating nuclear weapons, syria also have.

In Chechnyan rebels raided a school in russia and killed children because they weren't muslim. The rebels called the russian girls little whores. We are talking 5 year olds.

In Spain there were bombs from Al-Quaeda set off to get Spain out of Iraq and in London the same thing. But if we did bow to terrorism they can demand anything they like.

Look at the IRA. For years their bombs went off but they only got somewhere when they sat down and talked reasonably.

Muslims have taken over parts of britain, you cannot walk into Bradford at nighttime and there are white free zones. In London you cannot enter certain areas and expect to walk away and Muslims will stab you for no reason.

They call our women whores and spit at the men.

I don't justify wars and I don't condemn all muslims but its time for the real muslims to oust these people and say they are nothing to do with them instead of harbouring them in the mosques.

I don't think the people that are being tortured are there without good reason and I trust to a certain extent the people in charge.

Tony Blair is not a bad person. He may have misjudged some of the way he has handled all this but he is not a war criminal. I consider myself to be very rightwing as you may have guessed but I support him on everything he has done so far in this war.
