I live in canada and we have an election coming up. Alot of my friends have told me they aren't going to vote because they just don't care or there isn't ANYONE they find suitable. I've tried to explain to them protest votes instead of not voting because it counts as a vote. All I know is that you go to the polls and get your ballot and give it back saying you're protesting. I'm not quite sure how it works, though. I'd really like some help. I think protesting your vote is alot better than not voting at all. We have this voice and I'd realy like to get them to use it. Has anyone ever cast a protest vote or do you knwo how it works?
Well, I got irritated at the lack of options for one office, and wrote in Osama Bin Laden for county circuit judge. Does that count?
Well really you can't enter a protest vote unless you have something to protest against. over in the uk I am against the following. 1. The European Union - I would take Britain out, we have the commonwealth and its just there for the Germans to exploit. 2. High taxes - The labour party makes middle england (the average wage earners) pay 25% tax. High wage earners page 40% tax. A high wage earner is someone who earns over £32000. So if you earn £40000 you pay £32000 at 25% and 8000 at 40%. Whats wrong with this. Well most of educated britain earns between £30000 and £40000 which means we are all paying 40%. Pop stars, politicians, racing drivers, footballers all earn over £30000 as well so they all pay 40% tax as well. So I'm paying the same proportion of tax as a pop star. They should lower middle englands taxes to 25% and make pop stars, footballers pay 50%. It may sound extreme but a footballer on £100000 a week can probably afford to pay £50000 tax. What this means is that for every extra pound I earn now I get 60p. Less than minimum wage. 3. Stealth taxes. To try and disguise taxes the labour party has created new ones for every little thing such as VAT on heating, tax on pensions, tax on dying, tax on tax. 4. Public sector To get the number of people on the unemployment register down the labour party has created millions of new jobs that aren't needed in the public sector. So people we used to pay £40 a week to in unemployment benefit we now pay £200 a week for a job that does not need doing. Public sector earnings are funded by taxes paid from private sector workers. The more public sector workers the more tax that needs paying. I could go on..... The point being I have something there to really protest against. Now I look at all the issues and order them in importance. Now for me the big one was the EU and scrapping of the pound. So last time out Robert Kilroy Silk created the UK Independance party which said ok we have enough people in this country lets close the borders and focus on the people within. It may sound extreme but he also voted against the EU etc. So I voted for him, big protest vote, the party as a whole weren't going to get in because they are too extreme but by him getting made a member of parliament the protest has to be noticed within the house of commons. So work out what your gripes are and then pick your candidate.
