My Grandpa gave this to me a few months ago. Its a Banjo-Ukulele, made by Gibson in the late 20's early 30's. Its the smallest stringed instrument Gibson ever made. It sounds really great I'm working on learning some Uke. cords. (that other thing in the pics is just a rock that I forgot to move out of the way)
AHah. My dad used to have one of those and play it. They're pretty funky little things, as far as I can remember. That looks like it is gonna sound great too.
That is a way cool little creation! You ahve yourself a gem in that. My husband collects vintage bluegrass intsuments and he freaked when he saw that. Gotta learn ya some bluegrass chords so we can all jam sometime maybe bump into each other at a fest
Thanks everyone. I'm keeping it for sure! I already play the Mandolin a bit, so this should be pretty easy to pick up. I gotta get pickin'
wow that instrument is so cute. I am also interested in hearing what it sounds like....bet it sounds absolutley beautiful!
Hey Grim, In the DVD "Concert For George" (Harrison),a fella comes out at the end and plays uke and sings a song by George Formby, described as "George's favorite",or words to that effect. If you Google the name, you'll find a good website about him.Besides being a huge star in England for five decades, his instrument of choice was...the banjo-uke.
