ok I love tweed which is a sort of fabric of the twill type my favourite is harris tweed which is made on hand looms in the isles of scotland . to me there is nothing finer than a fine tweed suit , it is warm and long lasting , it blends in well in the country . it is biodegradeable the product of individual effort, it can look smart or casual . why dont people wear more tweed , are there other people who love tweed out there
I used to have a nice tweed jacket that I got from a 2nd hand shop. Wore it for years. It's a hard wearing fibre. Also once had a tweed suit - I didn't wear it much because I found the trousers a bit itchy on the legs. I guess a more expensive suit would have lined trousers. I think people don't wear it because it's seen as un-fashionable - maybe it will make a comeback.
You don't think it's seen as a bit 'country set' - I mean farmers, estate types and so on? In some of those old 30's movies tweed suits are featured. I think back then, working class folk only had one set of clothes often, or maybe two at best, so tweed was seen as a good long lasting material. Nowerdays, people have loads of clothes, and discard them much more quickly. Got to keep all those factories in China at full production It's another aspect of the throw-away world we live in. Perhaps it's also a kind of fabric that seen as too formal. A long tweed overcoat looks great, but it's a lot heavier and more bulky than a light modern coat.
it is seen as more country clothing I suppose but you dont need to be that rich to wear tweed , you can buy secondhand and it does look smart . I have goretex jackets and they are wonderful for walking on the hills , but I dont think they look as good as tweed .
all the kids are wearing tweed...i've seen them, i love tweed, it is comfy and snuggly warm, thank you for reminding me of tweed johnny2wise lol
I've been to the Isle of Harris; a very bleak place - Ample conditions to test the finest tweed. I have an old tweed jacket to go with my kilt somewhere, i think my wee brother nicked it. Ach well, fits him better anyway. yes, indeed, tweed is in need! ~
I feel with your travelling you need some tweed of your own you can depend on. I saw a suit of very fine tweed on ebay that had been made for a scottish laird, it was a suit that a gentleman could travel far in . it wasnt my size otherwise I would have been tempted to buy it myself as it was a old type of tweed that one just doesnt see today . anyway I feel you should look out for a tweed suit like that for travelling
I didnt know that! Ive looked for recipes for tweed although it doesnt look that tasty, but it may be useful to know how to eat it if stranded on a desert Island
