I've tried meditation/relaxation methods a few times, but I'd like to start doing it a bit more regularly. I am not too educated on the idea, so just to be general... what are some good tips and pointers to meditating? Feel free to PM me if you like.
i think it's good that i'm posting first, because before you read anyyyybody's comments, you gotta know FIRST: your meditation is YOURS. it's ABSTRACT*** when you're chasing expectations, sometimes the sheep doesn't find it's sheppard. you want to be free and loose with your meditation. not chasing pointers or GRIPPED by expectation. i think gripped is the main word. you want to lettttt goooooooo of that grippedness. we find our states of awareness is different places all the time. when we're tired, we get drowsy and sleepy, and that too is just another state of awareness! when you're scared, you get ALERT and nervous - another state of awareness/a state of mind. right now, you've got a certain state of mind... what is it, i can't even fathom, but you have the opportunity to letttt gooooo of that CURRENT state of awareness and mind, and let your relxation come uppp and overrr you. to lettt gooooo, and relaxxxxxx. the feeling of your meditation is ABSTRACT. i can't tell you what you're gunna feel, but all i can say is go with it. let it bewilder you. dont be the driver**** don't try to direct it just yet. when you get better at your meditation, you'll be able to poke it around =P but right now, just relaxxxx and letttt goooooo and surrrrreeennnnnnnderrrrrrrrrrrrr =) sometimes we want to drive, but we can't see the road =) you know? just, let yourself relaxxx, slip into what's more Beautiful. you can be laying down, or sitting up in a chair, or anything. don't fixate on positions* some people say pay attention to your breathes. i used to do this, to clear my mind. to subtttley and peacefully be aware of ONLY your breathe, as it justt sooo peacefully and naturally fills your lungs, and leaves your lungs. this will really get your mojo relaxed, and will let your inner sky fly. your inner sky flying, is a good way to put it i guess. but again** allllll this is abstract. it starts and ends with you. your meditaiton is sooooooo unique. dont be gripped to any expectation. i always thought 'no resistence, no resentment, no fear, no pride'. just, let go =) float down the river of your relaxation =) peaceful meditations to you =)
Thank you That was very insightful...probably the most insightful thing I've been told regarding this subject. The issue I have though, is reaching that "free" state of mind. I have... but it's difficult for me to achieve. I'm such an anxious person it's not even cool. The breathing seems to help me a lot... I think my biggest problem is not taking a moment to breathe easy. Being abstract is not an issue for me by any means though
ooo, a goood place for me to start is: "being abstract isn't hard for me though"... it's not you being anything***** like i said. sometimes we want to be the driver, but we cannot see the road. sometimes we think we're ready, but we're not. this isn't you being abstract, it's your meditation that happens to be abstract (in regards to talking about it and giving pointers). all you gotta be is OPEN, resistenceless, and relaxed. i know what you're saying about anxiousness. that's all good, and it is something meditation will reallllllly soooooth out. what you gotta keep in mind is that with your meditation, you're GUNNA be alive in a year. in a month. in a week... tomorrow!!! when you sit down to meditate, don't think this is the end all. don't try to achieve any complete Oneness today - but definitely try, you know? don't be grippped by expectations. don't be gripped by anything. know that nothingggggg in the worlddddd is TRULY going on. our lives - rather our states of mind, have become these snowballs rolling down the mountain. yours (and everyone elses) has been rolling down the mountain for so long, in societies and with habits of FIXATION and REASON AND LOGIC and yatta yatta yatta, that our state of awareness is sort stuck in a spot, and sometimes it's veryyy stuck. but, i always heard, that it's the easiest thing in the world to let go of it - it takes ONE second, ONE choice =)*!! but the person who told me that, said it took a while for them to realize that =P. it takes ONE MOMENT to surrender. it's a choice you have. the feeling might be abstract to you know, and truly, dont even try to make an expectation on what you're going to feel... like i said.... just layy down in bed. close the curtains, turn off the lights take 5 niceeeeee peacefulll breathes =) begin to scan your body slowwwwwly knowing that there is NOOO rush nooooo neeeeeeeeddd for any fixation on time and space =) you're just one soul laying in bed about to embark on a peaceful trip down a peaceful river =) scan your body for tension in your muscles. you'll find some maybe in your shoulders maybe in your face maybe in your calves. when you find it, don't get stardled, there's no reason to! it just takes oneeeee second - oneee acknowledgement to release it feeel the relaxation set into that muscle as you feel your body get more and more at ease then take another breathe or two. (when you're reading this, and you go and lay down, dont think you gotta follow these rules. it's the simplest thing in the world!!!! and you'll ONLYYYYY get better*!!) so, you're laying in bed =) relaxxxxxing surrrrrrrrrrenderrrringgggggg letttttinggggg goooooooooo letting your breathes just happen you'll notice a thought come into your head maybe, just send it on it's way and continue falling deeper and deeper into your relaxation. (maybe get a nice reiki music cd?)
Dear Apples and Oranges...........I assume you like early Floyd You mentioned you are an anxious person. I too have an anxiety problem, severe anxiety problem. I would just like to let you know that persevere with meditation because it has helped a lot with coping with life
i know this is about meditation and relaxation but does anyone have any advise on anxiety. i have social anxiety. i meditate sometimes but im only relaxed when meditating, any other time im just as anxious as ever. thanx, peace!
dreamerdude, with your meditating, it isn't only a means of relaxing yourself, it's also a way for you to truly understand yourself, to peel away those layers, and even heal your anxiety. the peace and awareness of your meditation is perfect for really looking inward. and you might find that the problem isn't something that's going to be learned out of nowhere, but in just reconnecting to love and peace - the same peace of living you find in your meditation. it's opening up and surrendering to that which will help meditation and yourselfff become a little less anxious, and a little more easy going - like the soft rolling river, or gentle breezes =)
aahhh how could I miss the oppurtunity to respond to a woman who's beauty I admire so much.......this isn't much, but it is a deep breathing excersize I do. 1. Lie flat on your back with your knees bent and feet on the floor at hip width and relax. 2. Inhale while expanding the abdomen, and then the ribs, and finally the chest. (you have to get used to this....do a deep belly breathe and then you know when you are breathing out of your chest because your belly will rise, then your ribs, then your chest.) Pause for a couple seconds 3. Exhale while releasing chest and shoulder muscles, gently and continuously contracting or drawing the abdomen in. (Your abdomen goes back in when you exhale, basically) 4. Repeat. Try to visualize the breathing adn really feel it....also you can direct your breathing to different parts of your body.....just an exercise, by no means the only way to do it.... Try getting a book about meditation or yoga....I like the dummies books. peace.
ohh yes yes yes*** good point brandon =) when you're truly breathing 'how you're supposed to be breathing', you'll notice your belly fills with air too. this is a fulllll, gooood ol' breathe =) but in the myst of your meditation, don't be too attached to it, at all really, just like anything else. just let everything be =)
thnx il try to look inward instead of just enjoying the relaxation but im not quit sure how to do tht yet lol... il try using marijuana to help deepen the relaxation gd look to apples n oranges peace all
I would say don't use marijuana right now.....personally, I would Learn how to do it sober..That is one of the points of it...learning to enjoy life without any substances.....I use marijuana, but not for meditation....not saying it shouldnt be done, just think about learning it sober first...peace.
yeah, he's right. try your meditation sober, and hten you'll notice that when you're getting high, you'll be able to use the same techniques of 'letting go' in your high to reallllly get you relaxed - which probably even happens unconsciously when you smoke. also, with looking inward, the rastifarians always believed that marijuana shows yourself to yourself. it always will end up in healing if you've got an open mind wanting to impend towards peace, and well, they used it to get closer to god that way - shed away those layers of self. regardless what you do, just always listen to yourself*
oh yeah and just to clarify...when i was talking about focusing on the breath.....that is a breathing/relaxing technique...but not meditation per se.
yeah, those techniques are great though*** before you go to bed, or anytime really, try laying down, and just taking 5 breathes! just, slowwwww and true, detached from whatever, just breathing.* that feeling there =) that's what those breathing exercises loosen you into =) meditation, i'd say, is continueing to let go into that. even though some folks say concentration enduces silence, the mystic, relaxing meditation is what i grew into, which is what we were all talking about so far. just letting go, breathing, and relaxing. floating downstram =)
ahh thank you muchly. That actually reminds me a lot of the breathing exercises I had to do in voice lessons So, it shouldn't be too much of a problem And by the way, thanks for the PM asking how it was going with this. It's reallly helping to take the edge off me lately. I love it.
