What's with the world these days, most men have their faces shaved bald as a babies arse and have short hair. Women are all shaving vaginas, armpits and everythings else. Also stateside every man is getting circumcised. On top of all that plastic surgery has really taken off all over the place. Can people not just be happy with the way they are, the natural them, the way mother nature intended them to be?
the media.. shallow insecure people.. money.. i like the natural look also.. makes me happy to see someone else that happy with their body as is.. normal
I cant stand it when i have armpit hair or leg hair and i dont like blokes with facial hair - however surgery is way to far. It makes a person feel better and really we dont need all that hair so shave it of is what i say lol
My sarcasim detector isn't working today. When I drink alot the night before it rarely works the next day. So are you being sarcy or serious?
I agree Spacer- there are too few natural people these days- I don't shave, though do trim the beard. I also love natural unshaved women without make-up. As for plastic surgery I can only understand the need for it where there is a major deformity. At same time we all have to do what feels right for us- natural or otherwise. The only thing that really bugs me the way people are conditioned that shaved is the only option. At least there's a few natural types on here!
Spacer, I kind of agree with you in principle, but I just want to make a few comments. I'm not so sure cutting hair is really being "unnatural." If that were true, trimming finger and toe nails is also unnatural. Hair, as well as nails, have no nerve endings, and when cut will always grow back. It's not a permanent change to your body. Also, is it natural to even bathe? There are a few things that make us human, and perhaps the desire, or need, to trim our hair and nails is one of them. Just my personal view, but I find those things very desirable and sexy in a woman. Actually, that's really a broad and highly inaccurate generalization. Although, there are still probably more circumcisions done in the U.S. than in most other countries of the world on average (except maybe Israel), "every man" certainly is not getting circumcised in the U.S. In one study I saw, about 40 years ago the rate was around 85%, but at the end 2003, about 56% of male babies were still being forced to suffer this permanent mutilation. That's true. I have mixed feelings about it. Inserting some kind of implant in someone is certainly not natural. On the other hand, would losing a breast due to cancer and not replacing it with an implant for the sake of being "natural" really make sense? I don't have a problem at all with someone wanting to fix some part of their body, like for example a huge crooked nose, when the medical technology and skill is available to do it.
My posting to the "Baring leg hair" thread: I can't believe that this is where the hippies hang out, where if someone talks about breaking social conditioning and respecting the natural human body, what do half the people want? Oh let me be normal and do what Mommy and Cosmopolitan magazine tell me! Now people are "refined and civelized" (maybe some day they'll be able to spell it), and they sure know what "looks better". They "cant stand armpit hair or leg hair". Anyone old enough to remember the real hippies doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. Oh well, we said never trust anyone over 30. So now nobody wants to be a hippie, but then why hang out here? If you're doing better over there in Ireland, count your blessings, boyo. One small ray of hope is that as Benj said, circumcision is getting less common. But more and more people are getting cut up as adults of their own free will. The world has gone mad.
This stuff is just done to make money. The people who do these plastic surgeries and invent these things to make our lives better really dont care that theyre improving life for people they just care that were paying them every cent we have. Most people get plastic surgery and do things to alter their body not because they honestly want to do it, its mostly because they feel the need to conform in order to fit in with society so society doesnt treat them like they different or not a part of society. Personally I feel Im natural just the way I am and I dont really give a rat's ass what anybody thinks of how my body looks/ If I have to do all the crazy stuff society wants me to do just to fit in then I honestly would rather not be part of that society and just get along on my own.
You know what I think? I think choice is good. I don't like pressure to be shaved, OR pressure to be hairy. I'm sure love and acceptance is the hippy ideal, more than hairiness. As far as the USA and Israel being the biggest in circumcision, I'm fairly sure that any muslim country will give both a run for their money.....
I'm being serious, and just so you know I cut off all of my body hair. And being a hippy isn't about what you look like.
That's true, but at least with Muslim countries and Israel they've being doing it for thousands of years and it is traditional and in keeping with their religion. In America they don't have that excuse. Also as Amontillado said, it's all about social conditioning, people have been conditioned to think that shaved is beautiful, bigger breasts are beautiful and circumcised penis is cleaner and better looking.
IMHO i think long hair on a guy looks retarded so i keep my hair short, and yes i shave. Beyond-the-clouds is right by saying its not about what you look like. I for one dont consider myself to be a hippy but i do love the ideas and open-mindedness about the boards.
It's called fashion. It's been around as long as we have, and it's changed as often as the wind blows. Some things have become social "cues", like men having short hair. Those things can be harder to change because they become "programmed" into our brain at some level, and it's been reinforced so long. Or maybe most men just LIKE having short hair. I know I do...I can't stand the feeling of long hair. I tried it once a few years back and it was the worst thing I've ever done to my physical appearance. In terms of being "natural", those who want to be still can be. Those who don't, don't. That's the beauty (and the hope) of this world - diversity to be and do whatever you like. It's not a question of not being happy to be "natural"...it's about a desire to be who we WANT to be. And it's also about us taking control of our own identities...as well as a part of the whole human desire to better ourselves. To strive to be something, a unique individual with their own identity, of which personal appearance is of paramount importance.
Well said, Sammy. What is being a hippie anyway? Appearance, or attitude? I think it's fine if you want to be hairy all over and feel that that is the only way to be "natural," but is it really right to judge others who may have different preferences? I thought accepting all lifestyles was the ideal, not putting people down who are different.
The "fashion industry" makes money off of this fashion at our expense because we all get brainwashed into thinking having short hair and bigger breasts is the right thing to do and if we dont do it we're looked down upon and made to feel like we're doing something wrong. I dont really like the idea of people imposing their views on us and making us feel horrible just so they can make the big bucks.
How much monny do they really make off people having short hair? Short hair is just more practal, because it's not all over the place.
