Who's seen it, who liked it. I for one enjoyed it, despite the fact that they abandoned the old west music (there is just something about fiddles and banjos set against starships that i like). I can kill you with my mind.
i went opening day, with my just-as-geekie husband. We even wore brown coats. I liked the movie, wished it would have done better... cried at the end when "he" died, and at the middle when another "he" died. Very sad. Did miss the usual "take my life, take my land" theme as you did. I honestly don't think Joss could do something that I wouldn't go to, or watch religiously. I have a huge mental boner for the guy.
ok, my daughter kelly turned me on to the series on dvd a few weeks ago and i fell in love with Malcolm and the crew. I thouroghly enjoy watching Zoe's amazing amazon, kick-down-brick-walls-ass everytime she walks away, and that of course goes for the captain Malcolm Reynolds;Uber Alpha Male. I adore their gear and the lava lounge look of the *boat*. The basic chemistry and such of the Captain and Enara, crew and exploits is reminisent of the old tv series *Gun Smoke*, with sherrif Matt Dillon and the "saloon mistress with the heart of gold" Miss Kitty. The western music really adds to the charm, cause the spacecraft and other transport units are freaking incredibly realistic. And the horses n' such make it so organic and tactile. I was excited to see the film a few days ago when it came out on dvd. It was frightful to see how hardened the captain had become, his face more chiseld and determined than ever, but mostly in part, to the loss of his true love enara. (It never fails to amaze me how the hero can be so fearless when facing space zombies, but whimps out when he has to speak from his heart etc.) There is so much more to say about the movie, but i am afraid of spoilers. And aside from some of the glaring script lapses that annoyed me, overall it's great entertainment. The outtakes and deleted scenes on the movie dvd are hilarious. i hope they make another one.
well, i guess it will just live on in cyberspace. there is a huge fan base and peeps get together regularly with the cast at Firefly conventions. It's become a cult! i'm in if i get to meet Nathan Fillion!
Easter egg: if on the title menu of the DVD you hit the left button it'll highlight a segment on the right side of the screen, hit enter and you can see the making of the Fruity Oaty Bars commercial and the commercial in it's entirety.
If the movie is as boring as the tv series, I feel sorry for the viewers, lol. Stargate rocks much more.....
"Take my Love, Take my Land, Take me where I did not Stand..." I liked the Movie for All the right reasons, except the unexpected deaths of a few good crew member's you'll never be able to replace! I also liked the T.V. Series, Didn't see it when It was On-Air, I saw it a few years after it had been cancelled, my sister turned Us onto the DVD collection.. I Am a Leaf On the Wind... :$ AEONFLUX3025
I expected nothing, so I was pleasently surprised. No it wasn't an intelligent, fun, or really even that great movie. But it was entertaining....in the spirit of Armageddon
Never saw the series. My girlfriend wathed it constantly, however, and I was reluctantly coerced into watching the movie a short time ago. I must admit, the whole idea of the 'space western' really did turn me off to it without ever having seen a snippet of it. That being said, i reallly enjoyed the movie, and now am slowly working my way through the series. It also must be said i agree with everyone who has said the movie was lacking for the loss of the western music. All in all, however, i really did find it well worth the time. One of my new favorites.
Serenity was a sweet movie for those of us who enjoyed the serise. Hats off to Joss and the Browncoats that brought it back from the dead for one last hurrah!
Eugene, Chiwetel Ejiofor as the operative was very convincing but the rest of the cast left a lot to be desired. The problem wasn't with the movie it was with the casting Hotwater
