A description of the book from my friend, and grandmaster of the shen men tao...
The Autobiography of a Yogi is the actual personal account of the training and experiences of one of the great yogis of the 20th Century. It is not a fictional work. As such, Yogananda's book sheds invaluable light on the Classical Hindu yogic methods of Self-Realization which have been taught in India traditionally for many milleniums to date. Yogananda's teaching in India and abroad was instrumental in popularizing his School of Yoga throughout the world. His own personal demonstration of the highest levels of achievement through lifelong devotion to Yoga teachings and practices were an indisputable validation of the multi-faceted benefits from Yoga Meditation and Exercises.

This is an outstanding book by a true yogi saint. Yogananda practiced bhakti yoga, the Yoga of devotion. He was indeed the embodiment of devotion, and this book chronicles his miraculous life.

You cannot but help being affected by his story and his passion.

::nods:: This is very true...I have not heard a word against it either...I remember I found it completely by accident...I was just looking around in the bookstore ...and the picture just said "read me!" ...and I remember starting it at the start of the school year last year and my German teacher going, "You are reading that book? Its one of my favourites! " :)

I have a very nice copy of Yogananda's book somewhere; I've dipped into it, and it is very good. Must get around to reading it all through properly sometime.

Still wading through my copy at the moment, I do find it a little hard going at times. Riveting none the less though. Its does leave one thinking we are all barking up the wrong tree, with regards to searching for material possessions instead of spiritual wealth. Boils down to a simple question really, are we more or less than the sum of are parts??
