    1. Without a doubt Mickey Hart of the Dead
    2. Michael Travis of String Cheese
    3. The guy in DMB can't remember the name

The only reason I left of jon Fishman, is cause I've heard him so much, live and on CDs, and it's like I'm sick of it. Travis is awsome. That one noise he makes, i THINK IT'S LIKE A STEEL DRUM OR CONGA.

Even though I hate DMB, I love the drummer.

The Dead's (live) drumming always fascinated me, so I'll go with Mickey and Bill. Only 'cause they're a team.

I love my Phish, but he is not the greatest drummer ever.

    1. Michael Travis
    2. Mickey Hart
    3. They really aren't a jam band, but I love these guys anyway and have to list them. I don't know if you've heard of them, but all of the guys from Mecca Bodega. Go to their website meccabodega.com and listen to the samples, insane. They are an all percussion band who does alot of street performing in the New York subways and stuff.

Rodney Holmes - currently playing with Kimock, unless Steve's changed the line up.

I bet if you asked Fishman, he'd probably agree with me. Rodney is not of this world

well of course Fishman is not going to consider himself to be the greatest....so he's gonna have to pick some one else....

Don't forget the great triple-threat from the Allmans. Those guys can jam forever.

Agreeing with DHS here, Rodney Holmes- hands down. i think he and Steve are the current core.
Mickey for opening us up to beyond kits and latin congas,
Gilly Gonzalez of KanNal who is a energy molecule and lays his nuts on the line, every measure, every time.
Travis when he did it all,
    Alan Hertz
Zac Valmer (and I'm touch and go with STS9)
Rajeev Parikh, Marty Ylitalo and Brian Carey from New Monsoon

Bill Kreutzmann would be my choice. After Mickey left in '71, Bill played Europe '72 and The whole '73 - '74 wall of sound era. So yep, go Bill!

Mickey is a very close 2nd. I'm a big fan of '76 - '78. I love listening to a good recording mixed with Bill in the left speaker and Mickey in the right. Mickey plays a straight forward beat combined with Bill's jazzy style makes a perfect combo.

im not sure if your saying you like billy more just cuz he didn't leave like mickey. or if you just liked 72-74 days. but if you are saying you like billy more (which is perfectly okay) just because he didnt leave. i think mickey had a pretty damn good reason to leave.

Wow! You read my post and somehow twisted it (in yer mind), that I, a Mickey Hart fan, disrespect Mickey cuz he left in '71. Um I know why he left and agree as you put it "mickey had a pretty damn good reason to leave".

Now back to the point, Yes! I'm a Bill Kreutzmann fan! That doesn't mean Mickey sucks. When I point out the years '72-'74, Bill was the only drummer and they made great music and you can hear/listen what a great drummer he was/is.

I'm sure Mickey would have loved to tour during those years. But he more than made up for lost time when he came back. As much as I love the early years I really enjoy the Mickey years the best. Late '76, '77, '78 was hot:X .

As for me, I'm an old head. Most of the shows I saw '82 - '85, so I've seen the magic of that drumming duo. I just wanted to give Bill Kreutzmann credit
in this thread as I saw Mickey's name a few times.

Haha timeoutofmind, here's an idea. Respond to all the Mickey post, and tell them by picking Mickey they're disrespecting Bill or vise versa, either way you're spinning your wheels, or in your case just blowing smoke.

Well why didn't you say you just had a question. I think it must have been the lack of any question mark (?) that confused me.
