Ok we all give into these from time to time. What's your fave? What is a waste of trees AND why? For me: I like Herbavore for edginess and the non California New Age feel. I dislike the sloppy editing, but I write for a living and that will jump out at me. The most dissapointing is Vegetarian Times post-redesign. too slick, too expensive, insulting to vegetarians (good g-d we know how to make pumpkin pie with dairy, get us a rocking VEGAN version for the commune pot luck), and too ad-heavy for suppliments and not FOOD. However, their food stylist and the photographers are some of the best in the genre.
i get petas animal times(for free) and thats all... its not ideal to me at all, and they also got some funny lookin recipes in it, vegan but not what i would have put in there if i was trying to turn people onto more vegness. also pictures of musicians holding radishes... did you ever eat raw plain radishes when you went veg? i personally hardly even ate vegetables... but its got some pretty cool and interesting stuff in it from time to time...paul mcartney interviews, bill maher mentionings(he was nominated for the sexiest vegetarian of the year...? made me laugh), talks of bill clinton trying to turn veg cause of his daughter, things like that. they also showed a person who lost some 100 pounds cuz he went vegan, and i wasnt surprised at all cuz i lost about 15 when i went vegan. but all he did was started eating soy meat products, soymilk with his cereal, other veg things and voila, easy as that... i wonder why they dont advertise and push that aspect of the diet more? sigh....plus its easier to stick with cause your sticking with it for unselfish reasons, and it gives you that firm resolve to keep eating right(most of the time).
I have only bought one - VEGNEWS...But I liked it, they interviewed woody harrelson - who knew he lived in a sustainable community in hawaii - and he is a vegetarian and activist? ..... It also had poll results of v egetarians favorite stores and restaraunts, etc...I liked it because it seems to be more vegan - I am thinking about buying some more.
I knew pot /hemp was his thing. I got a sample of veg News and thought they could make the format more standard magazine sized and use less paper. PETA sends out Animal Times to the press, or at least any reporter who contacts them once. Veggie Life can be good. Sort of slick, and woman aimed. What do you think of Delicious Living, the HFS freebie?
I have never heard of either of those, just the vegetarian times and vegnews....out of the two i only like vegnews......and yeah woody harrelson is all about the pot/hemp thing also.....he also drives a vehicle using biodiesel as his fuel.
I just got the latest vegnews and this one has the top 15 vegan athletes in it and an article about B 12 and some other interesting things...picked it up at the health food store today. I am so proud... I am starting to get more involved...My maw maw said that she would buy a subscription for her salon to put on the magazine racks....my main selling point to her was that in one article it had an article about pureology (a new cruelty free shampoo..suposed to be real good for color) and it had the websites adress to find what salons carry it and her salon is one...so yay...i made a small footprint today.
