one of the knobs that the strap hooks onto has unscrewed due to the hole becoming too big. i heard a tip about using a tootpick and glue, but totally did not understand it. how does it work? and how can i prevent this from happening again. thanks
the fix you have heard about it to use toothpicks and wood glue to fill the hole with wood. Stick the toothpicks in the glue and break them off so they dont stick out above the top of the hole. Let it dry. Then there is sufficient wood in the hole to screw back into. this is an old trick i first heard for door hinges in old houses, but if you have a guitar of much value it might help to get an opinion from your local guitar tech.
mine is a epiphone too. and samson, that would act as a sufficient filler to rescrew it. that's what the guys told me at the store i go to, but i wanted a second opinion. time to do surgery. thanks again
The toothpick thing works very well. I'd listen to the older guys. Be sure to use YELLOW carpenters glue. (Stronger than Elmers white glue!) It worked for me. (Same problem. Stripped hole.)
