    Hi gals,
I was just wondering if you all could help me out.
Ok, for almost 6 months now I've been having pain on the left side of my pelvis, directly where (from pictures and anatomical charts I've seen) my ovary would be. The pain is in the exact same spot, each time it hurts. It hurts every day (not constantly... it will not hurt, then start to hurt, then quit) and hurts 10x worse when I have my period. When I have my period it feels like someone is slowly pushing a sharp pencil or something into me at that spot. Tylenol, advil, aleve, doesn't help.
When I went to the doctor on Sept. 1 for a sinus infection I mentioned to my doctor that I've been having pain there frequently for about a month or so. She told me that she thought I had a bladder infection. She did a urinalysis and said that I did not have a bladder infection. I had continued to have that pain since then.
When I went to the gyno the 2nd week in Dec. I told him about it. He said that maybe I had an ovarian cyst. He pushed in the location and said it felt firm, but he couldn't feel a mass. So he set me up for a sonogram. I went to have the sono the next day. The stupid dr, nurse, receptionist, and preregistration person all neglected to tell me that I had to have a full bladder for this. I had no idea. So I got to the sono appt and the lady did a scan of my bladder and told me that I had an empty bladder, why did I not drink water? so she said the only thing they could do was give me a intervaginal sonogram. That was fun...
Well, I work in medical records at this place so I requested my sono report. I got it before the nurse called to tell me the results.
The report said my ovaries were normal but that I had 2 nabothian cysts.
The nurse called and said that my report was "normal" and if I had any more pain to call back. I don't understand why they didn't tell me about the nabothian cysts, even if it is not what is causing the pain? I've looked it up on the internet and it says that they are cysts that are on your cervix. My pain is not coming from the cervical area...
I called back a week later and told the nurse I was still having pain. She asked me if I had problems with constipation. I told her I poop like 4 times a day, I don't have problems in that area. She said the doctor wanted to make an appointment to rule out other things.
    What else could this be?
What other kinds of tests can they do to find out, besides doing a laproscopy? would a regular sonogram have shown something a vaginal one wouldn't have (different angle and all??)
My mom has been diagnosed with endometriosis a few months ago. She says her pain is worse than when she was in labor. I've been with her and seen her screaming because it hurst so much. I know my pain is not even close to that bad. Could it be that I am starting to have endometriosis too? My doctor already told me that he didn't think that was what it was...
I have a friend the exact same age with the exact same symptoms, exact same spot, same duration, etc. (we've discussed this many times) And her doctor told her that he believed she had endometriosis.

I'm just tired of hurting. Neither doctor I've been to has acted like they think my pain is serious.

I'm sorry to hear you feel so crummy... I've been having problems with ovarian cysts ofr a couple o years, and it's not a subject to be taken lightly. Definitely keep up with it, and ask your doctor if another sonogram with a full bladder might help. As far as the reporting of your first results... doctors have a funny idea of what is and isn't necessarry. They often feel that since in normal people cysts can come and go, they don't need to pay too much attention. When I had my first ultrasound, the doctor said "normal" even though I had several cysts, one of which was the size of a baseball at the time.
Good luck, and keep us posted!

You need to go back to that doctor, or another doctor if you do not feel much faith in the previous one. Make sure they know about your mother's endometriosis as you have a 50% chance roughly of developing that conditions which can cause ahesions anywhere in the body.

It could be a lot of things...endo, PID, PCS.... are you on the pill? If you aren't, going on the pill might relieve the pain you experience around your period. Seriously though, stay on this doctor about having an ultrasound. And if the ultrasound is clear and you STILL have pain, request a laporoscopy. I suffered for almost 8 years before having the lap done and ACTUALLY getting a diagnosis - don't wait that long!

I had the exact same pains for ages, doctors told me it could be many things-pregnancy, cists, cancer, appendicits to name a few.
It turned out to be bowel spasms. Although I was regular too, my system just couldn't handle wheat. I'd been eating a high pasta/bread diet my whole life and it finally caught uo with me.
I cut out bread and rarely have pasta and it's been fine.
Mabye go to a naturopath as well as another doctor. It might be dietary, or something else and it's worth a try if the doctors aren't getting results.

I agree that seeing an other doctor, a good OBGYN is the best idea. My advice would be to go to a big university teaching hospital. I work in health care, and the care in teaching hospitals is absolutely better than a community hospital.

That being said, some people here did have some good ideas. PID scarring (which would not show up on a sonogram) endometriosis, also would not show up on a sonogram. Also, you said you poop FOUR times a day? You could well have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It can cause pain almost exactly in the ovarian region. Even doctors sometimes can't tell, with an exam if a lump in IN the colon or on the ovary. You acn actually BE constipated and still have regular stools (and stooling four times a day sounds excessive, you may well have IBS) I lump of hardened stool can stay in the colon, even through bowel movements, and cause pain and a lump. Also, the place where your transverse colon makes a sharp turn down and turns into your decending colon is almost EXACTLY where you feel pain from an ovary (I've not only had training, I've had both problems and the pain is nearly identical.)

I'd see an other doctor for a second opinion, pain shouldn't go unchecked, and there is probaby something that can be done. If the OB can't help you, see a Gastrointerologist, by getting a referal from the doctor who thought maybe it was IBS.

I'm sorry you are in so much pain, good luck.

I had constant pain in one spot in my pelvis for a couple of years. They told me it might be all kinds of stuff....including my imagination. I found out last month, through a diagnostic laporoscopy, that it was adenomyosis.

I hope that you don't have adenomyosis or endo, but please, please take care of this quickly. In my case the pain only got more intense as time went on. Just like you, they tested me for a bladder infection. They felt around for cysts. They put me on BC pills. Nothing worked. The pain became debilitating.

Take good care of yourself. If it is endo or adeno, the sooner you find out, the better off you'll be.

Well, the latest is that they think I have endometriosis. The pain is still hasn't gone away. My doctor wants to do a laparoscopy. I'll let you all know what happens.

    Hi ladies,
Well, I had my surgery yesterday. Turns out that I did have endometriosis. They said my ovaries and fallopian tubes were fine but I had lesions on my uterus. I have some pretty gross looking pictures.
It was kind of scary at first because that was the first time I've ever had surgery (except for my wisdom teeth) and the first time I've ever been in the hospital.
I am glad that I had it taken care of. I am so glad that my ovaries and fallopian tubes are ok, I was worried after reading about women that couldn't have babies. Hopefully this will stop that constant pain I've been having.
Everything went ok but the anesthesia made me so sick. I was fine until I came home and as soon as I got in the door I threw up. I was sick until I went to bed last night at 11:30. This morning I had toast and tea and have been fine since. My incision in my belly button and incision near my pubic bone hurt, but only really when I get up or bend over or sit on the toilet.
Anyway, I just thought I'd let you all know how it turned out.

I'm glad to hear that it's coming out okay for you... Good luck in all your follow-up, and I hope your pain gets better soon!
(At least you didn't have an open surgery, those take ages to get over! :D)
