"The Northern Lights"/"The Golden Compass", "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass". Has anybody read this amazing trilogy?
Yes Yes Yes!!! I have!!! what an amazing read, I really struggled with the first hundred pages, couldnt get into it at all, but as soon as Lara goes with the gypsies to the fens it all just sort of makes sense and fits into place, I read the whole lot in 2 days, I couldnt put it down, even though its a kids book I found it enthraling. The weird thing for me is the fact that a lot of it is written about my local area (Oxfordshire) and every time I go to Sainsbury's at the Hayford hill roundabout I keep looking out for the portal between the trees! I think it tops Harry potter any day of the week, totally amazing You should also try reading David Eddings if you like that sort of fantasy book.
I read it, but I didn't think it was that great. I wouldn't mind reading it again, but I could live wihout it, it didnt really grip me very much.
Very good books.....not only a good children's story, but tackling adult themes and he has a good pop at authority and the church! I need a re-read.....
I've read "The Golden Compass" and it was awesome. It is currently being made into a movie starring Daniel Craig as Asriel and Nicole Kidman as Ms. Coulter.
yeah, they are really cool, and it doesn't matter that it's reeeeaaaally seriously fucked up (at least in the third book, that's kinda weird...), because they are really good too, and I almost start crying when... no, no spoilers...
I adore them...in fact...this thread has made me want to go read them all again. I love the controversy of the Amber Spyglass and it's conclusions about...you know! But yes, fantastic, fantastic books. And not just for the kids
