I heard off of erowid that using a bong actually reduces the ratio of THC to tar. As THC isn't water souluble and tar is the only explanation for this would be that as the vapourised THC travels through the water it loses heat to the cold water and condenses inside the water never making it to your lungs. The solution? I reckon if you use hot water this problem will be solved. Think about it as the water is hotter the vapourised cannabinoids will lose much less heat and less will condense, increasing the ratio of THC to tar. Secondly as you increase the temperature of water its ability to dissolve stuff gets better. This is irrelevant for the THC as it is non-soluble in water but it will ensure that a greater amount of tar is dissolved, increasing the THC to tar ratio even further. Just a little theory I thought of. I've taken to eating bud now instead of smoking it but could someone out there try this and say whether the smoke is cleaner (less tar) and more potent (more THC)?
That might be true, but have you ever smoked a bong filled with hot water? It makes you want to choke.
I would think that since the weed isn't actually being heated, but being burned, it wouldn't make any difference to the THC content of the SMOKE, not the vapor.
Hmmm. Burn= Hot/Heated. Now re-think that idea. The water reduces the tar content of the loaded bowl. IF, you do like I did, and turn the bong into a hooka, All you get is cool temp THC.
yeah i seriously doubt that....when I and everyone I knwo smoke out of a bong we get waay more stoned....thats why we smoke out of a bong......
you take larger hits from a bong and the smoke is more concentrated, that's why you get higher. Gram by gram though, a pipe is the best bet. And hot water in the bong in nice, it helps keep your bronchial passages or something dialated so you can inhale more, and the steam is nice and soothing.
From what I know from tests I did, organic substances* can solute in water more easy when it's hot. (This does not apply to gas forms, only to the solid form) *= organic means atoms: C, H and O, THC = C21 H30 02 For those interested, the full formula is: delta-9-TetraHydro-6,6,9-trimethyl-3-pentyl-6H-dibenzo[b,d]pyran-1-ol Now THC is, as you said, non-soluble. So this means that it probalby is a hydrophobe (or how do you spell this in english?) which means that no matter what the circumstances are, it wont stay in the water. it will go out as quickly as possible, and it will find it's way out. Even if it's not a hydrophobe, only a limited ammount of THC can stay in the water, the rest you will suck up and it will get to your lungs anyway due to the rest of the smoke going there. (the water keeps moving due to you sucking the bong, so the THC cant remain at the bottom and will eventually go up anyway) So I think that the temperature of the water doesnt matter, in fact I think that water doesnt affect it at all, or maybe just from the first hit... I hope I didnt misunderstood the first post, cuz that would mean this whole post is useless
what if......... you filled the bong with hot butter, and the thc that does pass thru, some will stay in the butter and you can drink it, and um... ok, fine forget it. i don't care.
lol! i agree, tap water is a big no no... only bottled water, and for my six years that i've lived here, i've gotten used to that and prob would never drink tap water in the US again... (especially thanks to the flouride) or anywhere really
actually thc is partially soluble in hot water, so I guess I just killed that theory. but the tar will be more soluble in the hot water as well. Eitherway the thc lost in bong water is probably irrelevant to your high.
Its partially soluble in water in general, but the amount is so little that it hardly makes much of a difference.
plus the amount of thc that is actually destroyed thanks to it being burned...like 90% or something? that's more significant than what is actually retained in the water
^^ You know think I read somewhere that it's even more then 90%, I mean it is fire we're talking about. Good point.
That might actually work. THC is fat soluble, so maybe you could get recreational butter out of it... hmmm.... I suppose it would have to be melted or at least warmed to a nice consistency (and have a pair of strong lungs smoking the bong). This might work. I don't think I'm too willing to try it though....too broke to waste bud.
i hope you people are joking lol especially the one about thc being burned, and so it isnt actually heated? lol
lol, that's why you make a bong where the stem is close enough to the bottom of the bong so you don't have to have a shit load of water in there and it does the trick or just take dry bong hits whichever
Besides pulling bong tubes through molten fat doesn't really work either, as ALL the THC would dissolve into the molten mass! ROFLMAO! I like an ice bong, or bubbler~my doctor in Holland told me to always smoke through water to reduce the heat and damage to the lungs from smoking cannabis. He was cool. He would have given me a prescription, but you don't really NEED one there in the Netherlands, unless you expect your insurance to pay for your weed! HA! That's a good one!
