Why are you a bigoted jerk?

This is a free forum. In that way it sometimes feels like a street corner, an oft times dangerous place for hippies, free thinkers and gay folks to congregate and discuss what ever topic they wish. Like that unsafe street corner, we are exposed to trolls who's only presence is to derail our conversations or hurl insults and shame. This type of individual has the misguided belief that they are doing god's work, or keeping America free, or simply that they themselves are awesome.

Unfortunately it doesn't take much to damage a forum like the Gay Forum at Hip Forums and make it into a refuge for anger and distain. That is a pity. I have enjoyed coming here. I enjoy lively and intelligent debate. For instance, having hippypaul challenge my suggestion that the pope volunteered to join the Hitler Youth caused me to go back and check the facts. I learned that the story of the popes involvement with nazis has been mislead by the left (as well as down played by the vatican to make the pope look more heroic.) Thank you hippypaul. I am a seeker of truth, therefore I am grateful to stand corrected.

I also have strong opinions and I am unafraid to share them. I believe that's one of the ways that we learn. Heck, I can even enjoy squirrely debate, as long as we all know that's what we're doing. What I don't like is having some ass redirect every conversation and topic that is started.

Well, I havent seen any bigotry around here except from you and if someone sharing experiences, discussing related issues from 'unpopular' perspectives or asking tough questions is a 'Jerk' then I suppose you might look into something besides Free Speech.
IF you are already this bothered in an internet forum in which simple text can be easily ignored with a click of a button (or how bout just not reading it).. and a forum in which you side with a majority opinion... well then I dont know what to tell you?
Why not just enjoy the parts you like and ignore the ones you dont?

Hipunk, the easiest solution to trolls is to ignore them and don't post anything to them. They'll get tired and move on.

 

You shouldn't feel the need to justify yourself to bigots. Engaging them would seem to validate what they said as deserving a second look or concern, which it does not.

He says that these "documented sources" have said this, and indeed they have. It's laden with Freudian bs and the last thing you can count on Freud for is his correctness. He got pretty much everything he ever said wrong.

Therefore, if you know that such things do occur but are not necessarily the cause of all homosexuality, then be content in that and leave the reactionaries to their antiquated psychoanalytic principles which have been disproven by modern science. You don't need to explain yourself to anyone when you aren't hurting anyone. And the moronic ideas will fade away as no one is left who gives a rat's ass to engage them in argument.

 

I dont feel like Im trying to justfify myself to him or anyone else. I just try and get the facts out there and if he needs to keep posting 'flame-baiting' threads like this one, go for personal attacks - so be it.
I just ignore them.
