Hello! I'm new here... I was sent over here by drumminmama, because I'm a new ovo-vegetarian & could really use some help with basic veggie "stuff."

Let me see. Who am I? Well I'm a 30 year old homeschooling mom to 2 darling children, and am married to my best friend & high-school sweetheart. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in full Renaissance style last February & have now been together for 14 years.

Other than homeschooling & Renaissance reenactment/costuming/research, I have 3 uber-spoiled guinea pigs, and enjoy baking, scrapbooking & genealogical research. Dunno what else y'all might want to know, but that's me!

Hope to "meet" you all soon!
    love,
    mom

Umm, let me see. My mom is a meat 'n potatoes lady, and while I've done a lot of growing since I moved out, I still get hung up on the "but where's the protein?" question. And I know a few good vegetarian recipe websites, but could always use a few more. Other than that, it's the basic stuff like what type of suppliments or substitutes do I need to find to work with my new diet? I've been dairy-free for a year now, and meat-free since Thanksgiving. So I've got a bit of a feel for things, but I guess my biggest "problem" right now is sticking to it. Nobody I know "for real" is a vegetarian & my family all thinks I've lost it. So a little support from some other "crazy" people would be awesome, and I'm sure that I'll have zillions of questions as I catch on to exactly what I've gotten in to.
    love,
    mom

Well I must admit I am not a veggy..... but I do live a very healthy lifestyle. Supliments are the key to any diet and finding good ones can be the hardest part. Good ones are expensive. Pure encapsulations produces the best supliments in the us I think, but you have to get them through your DR. Ask your Doc!!!! The one thing that I have noticed about alot of veggies is that they teld to load up on carbs which as we know now adays really isnt good for you unless you exesize daily which most in this country don't. So Balance is everything. Protien, Fiber and a good supliment plan are the key and believe it or not fat. we need that as well. os for recipies there are some great books out there. Molly Kotzen (spelling) has soem great stuff plus there is one called the Enchanted Brocoli Forest a clasic.... well hope that helps... and if you do eat tofu I recoment the hard stuff.....peace love and hapiness ....Jason
