hey guys im just wonderin what the best approach is to becoming a vegitarian is. any input would be great peace love ember rose
meaning how to turn yourself off of meat or make sure you ont be nutritionally deprived? my mother got a whole bunch of panphlets on animal cruelty which completely turned her off meat (a cat's head had the fur taken off and was really ______ and .. i wont get into details) as for making sure you aren't going to be missing anything important well i take these things: soy milk and products like, saten (i dont know how to spell it) is quite good- it's like meat almost but has a nice taste and you can cook it in several ways, and have plenty of nuts and cheese. you can get rice cheese and soy cheese if you're going vegan. being a vegetarian, you need to enjoy all the fruits and vegetables out there. i have these every day and it just makes you feel really good and is an excellent source of vitamins. in my city, we have a great selection of health food stores where you can get meatless chicken and beef- i used to be a vegetarian but now i cannot deny i have meat once a year around christmas time. it's important to know your motives and why you want this- with that, you have a purpose to guide you.
thx for the help yea thats pretty much what i wanted. my mom also showed me one of those kind of pictures and thats prob. the main reason im doin this. but ive always been abit undecided cuz of the whole protein issue but now that i no u can get it in ohter forms im goin for it.
yeah the proetin issue is really not even an issue....and if you want to help turn yourself off of meat....i am no expert there because i just stopped eating meat....but when i am eating with omnivores who put meat in my face i just remind them over and over again how it was alive and living in a place filled with disease and then someone came and slaughtered it and put it on their plate....they think they can win by putting meat in my face, but they dont know who they are messign with lol...
The greatest encouragement is the fact that with every meal you make, you are helping! It is awesome to know the mundane is exceptional I would get a vegetarian starter book, like "becoming vegetarian" or "vegetarianism for dummies" or something, that outlines the basics and can ease your parents' fears if they have any (I didn't check your age, so this might not be an issue). However you go about doing it is your own path. You might try no meat at all anymore, or you might try phasing out, like meat 3x/week then 2x/week, then 1/x a week, 1x every other week, etc or just do it by animal, or just no red meat first, then no chicken, etc. Although if doing ot for ethical reasons, then a chicken is a pig is a cow.... learn to cook. it will help you. the worse thing you can do is be a chips and soda vegetarian. it is your responsibility to keep your health up, find the basics, etc. And protein, as long as you aren't getting your calories from junk food, isn't even an issue.
thx alot. i think ill try to get one of those books cuz yea my age is an issue. they are very scepticle of the whole issue of my becoming a hippie so hopefully theyll understand.
Going Vegan is a great book. I know you are just going vegetarian right now, bu it is sill a great book because what is good for a vegan is good for a vegetarian for the most part.
Read some website (like www.goveg.com) Definitelty watch the Meat Your Meat video at www.peta.org After seeing this you'll have no desire to eat meat products, if you're compassionate. Just go vegetarian overnight. It won't be as hard as you think.
i went vegetarian when i was 7...i was eating a hotdog and i just started crying, and i decided never to eat meat ever again. so i guess if you really want to stop eating animals just stop. i don't think it'll be too hard.
yea its hard because i know my parents already look down onto my becoming of a hippie so now my becoming a vegitarian is even worse so i was forced t oeat a hotdog (only 1/2)and i got soooo sick. but pretty soon i guess ill have to tell them.
Wow. Even people who do eat meat should never be forced to eat a hot dog. Don't your parents know what kind of garbage hot dogs are made of?
yea they do but i mean they dont understand what becoming a vegitarian means to me and they think its just a joke. i sometimes wonder what i was thinking by choosing them as my parents.( i beleive that as a fetus or w/e u choose ur parents for reasons that dont ever become clear to you until it happens).
I haven't eaten meat since dec. 30..i'm considering becomeing veg... and i work in plainfield mama! we live very close to each other! i too, also believe we choose are parents..maybe you wanted to take certain traits from them..and maybe u choose them to see how u do not want to be health wise..maybe they are the epitome of what you do not want to become..so that's the reason you chose them....you have to really work it out..sometimes it is confuzing as to why we choose our family..but in the end it all makes perfect sense...
Raw meat stays in your system too long, rots and is unhealthy. Chickens have birdflu. Cows had mad cowdisease. Its not healthy (this way). If the meat is tasty and 'easy to chew', the animal had a terrible life. It got NO iron. None at all. It probably in pain and panic ate bits of his skin and fur out since it countains minor amounts of iron. THey break the legs of pigs while they are alive because dragging them is faster then walking. They cut the vocal chords sometimes to stop the screaming. Some reasons to be veg? (I'm not completely myself though, I'm a stupid hypocrite fool who can't decide what she really wants)
