The isolated sleep paralysis event occurs most often at sleep onset. An individual, even though aware and maintains that he is awake, is atonic, and has great difficulty moving. This atonic state is similar to the atonia experienced during REM sleep. This experience also may produce great anxiety and fear, while the individual struggles to "wake up. Individuals who experience sleep paralysis often report concurrent hypnagogic hallucinations. A commonly reported hallucination is the feeling of a presence or entity in the room in which the individual sleeps. so who gets this? I certainly do, quite often, numerous times a week but i have gotten use to it and no longer find it harmful (after doing research). Scary at first, i use it to my advantage and from that i become very lucid. the thing I find most fascinating about this is that many of the hallucinations I've experienced- presences (I've conversed with them, one of them claimed to be Death), voices, buzzing/wind noises, the sensation of being crushed or sat on, and the overwhelming terror are things that thousands of people also experience when they become aware.
sounds drug related can you hear, am i sitting in a tin can, far above the moon, planet earth is blue and there's nothing i can do, bau ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
AHHH The old hag!! wile this seems cool to others it has literaly scared the holy grail outa me...the last time I had this was about two months ago. I was experienceing this loud buzzing and couldn't move and was wide awake but something was holding me. and the electricity was alive. I finaly senced there was an alien holding me and I was being abducted. I had to move I must get up. so I relaxed for a second then with all my might I sat up in bed only to see an old man run out my bed room door and what ever was with him went out through the window..but wait I was still laying in bed. I had sprung out of my body. I laid back down and woke up fine.....a little sweaty but fine. They started pretty simple with the feeling of an old woman at my head and she was holding me just for spite. But they have grown more bizzare!!!. I still get the feeling I have died and can't move everytime it happens at first then my sences kick in and it seems im at there mercy as to what happens. many people claimed to have learned to go with it and do some really cool stuff.. When I was young I remember one that would have to be my first I supose. I was a angle with weak wings and could only fly so far then id have to land to fly again. I flew all over the valley landing every 1/4 mile or so then takeing off again. yea its pretty wild but wouldn't wish it on anyone.
it reminds me i need to meditate... i think its energies in your soul that need to be looked at and clarified. or acknowleged
"Individuals who experience sleep paralysis often report concurrent hypnagogic hallucinations. A commonly reported hallucination is the feeling of a presence or entity in the room in which the individual sleeps." Thank God. I thought it was just me. I understand the paralysis part. A part of your brain (brainstem?) shuts down muscles, except those needed for survival. I guess it's designed to keep you from hurting yourself in your sleep. I guess if it happens during light sleep (just after going to sleep or just before waking) and there's a sudden noise in the room, you become semi-conscious and try to get up but can't. And your brain tries to make sense of it and creates the hallucinations. This happens to me a lot. Several times I've felt somebody grabbing my leg and really thought someone was in the room. And then you fight to wake up but can't, and it's like dying. Creepy.
I have not prayed to God for many years. The other night there was an incredibly violent windstorm with trees falling over. Its early summer so half the windows in the house were open, there was rain pouring into my room and my curtains wrre flying everywhere. I woke up feeling very nauseous, but still half asleep, I imagined that there were men running around outsied trying to get into my house so I ducked underneath the covers, then a voice started saying, "It is the apocolypse, everything is going to die now" or something similar. I don't really get frightened of anything, but I felt an overwhelming sense of terror like local hippy described, and a fear of everything in existence being overcome by chaotic forces. I prayed so hard to jesus for about 10 minutes, which is weird because I'm a pretty stubborn atheist. It was probably my first major experience with lucid dreaming, i hope it happens more often.
Ive experienced this before The buzzing sound, struggling to wake up. I didnt know it was sleep paralysis.
If there is one thing I have learned over the years is these creatures or spirits actualy seem to use fear to control me but when I overcome there fear and they know I'm after them they split. kinda funny they claim if you actualy remain calm you can meet the spirit that called you out..now that would be cool....
it has happened to me 4 times in a period of an hour this morning, i made myself get up out of bed the last time it happened and stay up.
Oh my goodness, I got the chills reading that. It described me to a "T". I don't have it happen as often as it once did, but it definitely has happened to me. Mainly it's been that I've felt a presence in the room as I struggle to wake, I'll feel as though someone is standing over me, looking at me, something evil. Sometimes I've felt that this "presence" is hovering in the doorway. It's really scared me and I always end up screaming hysterically, jumping up in bed and swatting at the air. My husband then has to calm me down by holding me tight and telling me everything is okay, it was just a dream, but he says that I'm pretty out of it, and just drop back into the bed and fall asleep again. The next morning I can dimly recall waking up screaming, and why I felt so afraid. It's freaky really. I've never understood it.
Hi , I have experienced this many times and I was very scared at first but also amazed at the same time, I have also had the buzzing ect,all the experiences that are metioned above. I have also had many OBE's with this also, so I am now trying to embrace and undertsand this and am so glad that there is people like wise who are curious about this state of awareness
Is there anyway you could experience this when not actually asleep or on the verge of it but just tired??
Dudes, this is the best way to astral travel!!! When you get this, calm down... I had this once, I felt like if something was pushing me on my stomach around the solar plexus chakra... then it began to pulse... and I also had a pressure on my forehead, and my ears were buzzing... then my body started vibrating... you guys missed out a super opportunity to make one of the most amazing things in the world.. keep concentrating on the vibrations, the buzzings, the pulses on you and everything... I did that once, and I found myself a meter above my body, (it was my first time really astral traveling , not a dream astral travel, the real thing... I knew I was in my astral body, and I was in my normal room, just in another body).... But sadly I was too blown out of my mind by the situation, so I came back to my human body.. weird thing is... when I was back... I still felt the pulses on my stomach and my head.. they were getting weaker and weaker... and I could move again... B But still people... you have to use this state of consciousness at your own good
^ exactly, try to calm down and tell yourself everything is harmless, and lots of neat things can happen after-such as lucid dreaming which im sure everyone is aware of what that is.
Hi, I Too Experience Sleep Paralisys Very Often, I Have Experiencing This As Far Back As I Can Remember. It Was Not Until a Few Years Ago I Relized That I'm Not The Only One. This Use To Happen Alot More Often, And Alot More Randomly But Now Its Usally When I've Been Really Stressed Out And/Or Sleep Deprived. It's Too Odd, I Know I'm Awake, But I Can't Move A Muscle. And I Can't Open My Eyes. I Always Get The Feeling Of Another Presence, Or Another Person in The Room. I Feel Like Someone Is Sitting On My Chest, To Where I Almost Cannot Breath. I Feel Very Vonerable And I Always Get The Same Dream Where It Seems Like Everything Is Soooo Out Of Proportion, For Example I'm The Size Of A Cell, And Im Being Forced To Pick Up These Huge Bricks That I Cant Even Move, And I'm Spose To Pile Them In A Room, But This Dream Is Always Interupted By Buzzing Sounds, "demonic" Hellucinations (specifically "dancing" or "twirling" around on the walls) etc. Iv'e Pretty Much Delt With It Fairly Easy In The Past Few years, For Example Now I Can Tell Myself To Calm Down, BEcause I Know When It's Happening, Alot Of Times I Can Even Wake Myself Up By "shooting" Out A Blast Of Energy, It's Hard To Explain, I Just Sit There, Very Calmly, And Then Just Take Every Ounce Of Energy I Have, And Use It All At Once ...Some How This Does The Trick... I'm Going To Go Do Some Research On The Web ...Now I'm All Curiouse About Others Stories, Experiences, etc
