I just moved to San Francisco, and I was hoping to get some ideas of what to see from some locals. It doesn't have to be in San Fran necessarily, but something in the general area. Good cities to see, beaches, parks, places to hear music, meet cool people, whatever. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Peace,
    Kevin

first i'd get on bart. ride to the end of all the lines and back to where you got on. then take the cal-train commute from 4th and townsend down to san jose and back.

then check out golden gate park, all the musiums and so on. the zoo and the japanese gardens. and ride all the muni trolly lines. and go restaurant crawling. you could do that forever if you could afford it. the expensive ones arn't the only good ones by any means. stick with whatever your own price range might happen to be and still discouver endless wonders.

there's a bunch of colleges and univesities. all have libraries and art galleries. some have planetariums. all excellent things to do.

there's all sorts of parks up in the hills of the east bay behind the 'gotrocks' neighborhoods. go to the map store in bizerkley and get the guide to the bay regeon's park systems.

oh and there's a consolidated website with links to all the transit systems in the area. definately bookmark that.

that only scratches the surface of such a densely verigated area. there are new neiborhoods and attractions comming on line all the time, even as others go to hell in a hand basket. always chainging which are which. something to be careful about, but also to discouver. oh and if you get tired of all that urban life stuff you can take amtrak's capitol corridor train-bus combination ride on up to my part of the world and beyond. not much to see here in roseville (just north east of sacramento) but auburn is up in the foothills and a pleasant excursion for a couple hundred mile 'day trip'.

(i've never lived in the bay area myself but used to go down there quite often and there's a furry con i go to in san jose every year)

I thought China Town was pretty interesting to see, but walk in too far, it gets a little sinister there!
    Golden Gate's a must-see but I'm sure you'll see it anyway.
Uuurr... I love about all of SF, it's hard to say what the best places to go actually are!
