Sleeping on your left side helps with circulation, and also keeps your blood pressure down. I spent a LOT of time on my left side while pregnant with my twins, and even after the birth because my blood pressure was so high from the complications I had.
congrats!!! I was exactly where you are one year ago. (my lil guy was born aug. 9th) I felt the exact same you do.. it was almost unreal. But it becomes so wonderful. And then once the lil one is born you kinda miss being pregnant. I still find myself holding my belly like I did when I was preggo. I did the OB thing too, I'm too big of a baby for pain and I wanted to make sure I would be ok and everything. I actually ended up having a lot of problems with my body that I didn't know about. So I hope all goes well and definatly head over to the parenting forum. They are all wonderful and helped me through a lot of stuff. And still do!
Yeah, guys definitely get a bit more out of it, because they want to know what is going on when we feel this or that. But for us, that book doesn't do much. I kinda found (at least for myself) that in pregnancy you start suffering in silence from ailments that any other person would immediately call a doctor about (ie. constipation, nausea, headaches, soreness, etc.) But definitely get those books I recommended. Also, ask Brighid (forumer midwife) what she would recommend. Sleeping on your left side helps with circulation. You've got a lot more blood coursing through your veins right now, so blood pressure can be a factor. But sleeping on your left side really does help. As far as napping, you're going to be VERY TIRED for the next little bit. Around 18-20 weeks (at least with me), I got most of my energy back. Though now, I can't stay up as long as I once did. I find myself going to bed at 10 pm, and getting up closer to 10 am. But throughout the day, I'm fine. Yeah, that happened with me. During first trimester, all I could eat was mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs. Everything else tasted weird. That will go away as well, but for now just try to find healthy alternatives.
at first trimester, i just slept alot and was constantly tired. i also felt so much nausea that i would wake up in the middle of the night and puke. you feel irritable and fat and sick and food tastes wierd and smells bother you and everything is completely different. then you feel this little flutter in your tummy and its so freaking great. and when your baby starts moving around and you can tell when he/she's sleeping or awake, its just extremely cool. you'll love it. i always thought it would be wierd to have something growing inside of me and having another human in my stomache, but it truly is cool and great. then you'll feel like you cant get any fatter, but you will. and then you'll think you cant get fatter now, and you still will. my advice to you, walking and water aerobics. it works. plus it will help with the swelling. but pregnancy is so freakin wierd,. i couldnt watch a Bailey's (the alcoholic drink) commercial without running to the bathroom and puking. and all their doing is floating around and playing with the bubbles. and i would cry during some commercials. sheeesh..... your hormones become crazy. congrats! nothing is better than creating a new life and watching this little person grow.
My due date is August 16th, and they are saying I am 5 weeks pregnant... as they go by the date of your last period. The oatmeal was better today... lol... yeah, Celtgirl... sugar helped. Still no morning sickness (knock on wood)!
One thing that I would suggest is to NOT read "What to expect..." A lot of the info is outdated and does NOT support AP (if that is what you are interested in).
Attachment Parenting. Co-sleeping, child-led weaning, child-wearing, gentle discipline, etc. Dr. Sears has great books on it. If Maggie Sugar were here, she could give you a library's worth of info to look into.
ic... attachment parenting. lol... i was thinking Associated Press...and that didn't quite make sence given the context. I am interested in "ap"... will get some books once I am back home Any of you ladies experiance INSANE breast growth? I mean, I normally have large breasts, but this has already gotten wayyyy out of hand. I was told I am 5 weeks along, and already I've grown out of my 34DD bras! Went bra shopping today, and ended up buying a 40DD, to allow for continued growth... thing already fits me though! I mean, I have the strap on the smallest closure and the cups have a little extra fabric in them, but it is by far the most comfortable bra I now own. What did other "well-endowed" ladies do?
new bra. It's the ONLY time I actually reccomend them: pregnancy and nursing. here's another great book if only for laughs: Ariel Gore's Hip Mama Survival Guide.
oh yeah, Ariel Gore is a great writer. She's slightly biased toward single mommas, but her writing is briliantly funny and she does have some good advice for all kinds of mommas. I also suggest her book The Mama Trip
I assisted at the birth of a baby and the woman rose above the pain by using the Lamaze method....panting rapidly like a cat with her tongue out, panting faster and faster as the contractions came closer and stronger...and she was able to push out that baby girl on the seocnd push.....in fact she said it was so awesome that she went and got pregnant on purpose again real soon! But....the baby was her second, so it is easier the second time....
wow. One bit of advice i can give is when you buy your nursing type bras, dont buy anything thats not completly comfortable, if one little part is irritating dont buy it...you will be living in the things for a while if you BF, it drove me mad, the milk can get a little out of hand at first.
Also be soure to have plenty of nursing pads. They come in disposable or the kind you can wash.Sleep in your bra with pads in if you have to cause I woke up soaking wet a few times.
