well On The Road was written on Benzedrine. But Kerouac already had all the ideas and his idea of the prose he wanted to use. He wrote a bunch of books stoned to varying sucess. Part of Howl (Allen Ginsberg) was written about a peyote trip or something. I think. And William Burroughs was an addict. Idno. I think when your stoned its hard to structure things, though descriptions can turn out well.
i dont really see the point in drugs. theyre like okay to try but then theres much more intersting things to doand think about
and on the note of creativty!! i should know!! they definately are bad for creativity.....especially if yur hands spazs out when youre trying to write/play an instrument...concentrate..etc.... they do the work for you...so your brain stops workin as hard o be creative...and then....you find out suddenly, its more creative to be using your brain in sober mode...becuase it has to work harder...and tahst more intersting than taking a pill, spilff..and tripping out....rather than making something productive forma n intial idea
I find dope makes me paint very childish pictures, but i love painting whilst stoned as my feelings go straight into the picture. Im sure all halluciogenic drugs would result in interesting paintings if that was what you were going for.
yes it does for the Beatles pot and acid made them a serius band instead of bubble gum music. Heroin work well with early Metallica. Jazz MUSICIANS have been smoking pot since the early 1920s.
That's me verbatim in 15 years. I now think anything on drugs is not the real 'you/me' but a drugged version of the person. I'm as quick to rip the powerfully emotive lyrics out of a high songwriter's hands as I am a gold medal from an athlete on HGH or EPO. As a writer I now think of it as an ownership issue. The drugs of my youth aided with creativity and my lifestyle made me feel like I was 'experienced' enough to write profoundly. Thems the old days cuz I want full credit for my creativity. ...but actually how funny would it be to watch a screenwriter accept his academy award with a, "I'd like to thank the 2,623 joints consumed while writing this. If it wasn't for them I'd probably have written something more along the lines of Driving Miss Daisy."
It doesn't matter who you are, I guarantee Adderall will give you an incredible creative burst if you just sit down with a pencil and a piece of paper. You can write nonstop for hours on end, and it might be a lot better than your sober works.
This is bit like the "do you need to live an interesting life to write" question. I mean I never shagged a French girl but I know I could write a compelling scene about it. :H Tripping, smoking, drinking, shagging, playing ...are as colorful to a life as inner struggle, sitting quietly, admitting a fault and doing the right thing. It depends too on what you do with an insight, not just on how you come by one.
i wrote one of my best songs with a little help from my friend, 2 grams of white widow and a water bong...and i wrote a whole albums worth of songs after one hell of an acid trip
i perfected some harmonies with weed, and made some good rock and roll with a fee beers. but otherwise, i need to be sober to play the violin, my brain has to work quickly with the fingers.
the best poems I have wrote lately have been whilst tripping. I think they help to aid you in letting go. See, I have a theory. True art, or creativity is when you DON'T think about it but just let the pen/paintbrush/pencil/whatever go wherever it wants to go and then only afterwards look through it and put the "filter" over it. I'm starting to try it more when sober but it's defintley easier when high. Thats what its like for me anyway
When I have to write a paper or something for college....I usually get a sipper of some whiskey on the rocks and usually pack a bubbler and chill out....it usually helps me get creative.......
Marijuana is all very well and good but if I'm on a creative project and I'm really into it, being off weed and alcohol is where I prefer to be, then using weed and alcohol is ideal to stand back from your work to edit or see it all in a new perspective and therefore it's perfect for it.
