    Artillery and Fireworks
The kids lit the wicks and watched,
As a multitude of different colored sparks dazzled in the night sky.
Nothing can compare, not in the slightest,
To the thrill in the eyes of a child,
As they run around, arming their instruments of destruction and delight..
    Roman fires and interstellar objects,
Illuminate the heavens in every color the human eye could ever begin to even imagine.
Fireworks are a double edged sword though.
Their brilliance in light and color,
Is matched in full force by their thunderous and ear shattering explosions.

Nothing can compare, not in the slightest,
To the fear harbored in my eyes.
    I gazed in statuesque stillness,
As the children ran and laughed in ecstasy,
At their ongoing dance with the weapons.
I had been in this place before.
Perhaps in a different time, and a different field.
And the weapons may be different,
But the fear remains the same.
It took all my willpower and nerve to fight it.
That instinct burning in my brain,
To dive under a car, or a makeshift trench perhaps.
And wait for the barrage to pass over me.

    "A Title Requires Caring"
Apathy, that feeling I hold so dear.
Apathy, it’s easy to join us and not care.
Teenage angst is a lie we all swallow when told.
Gothic depression an idea that we’re all sold.
Apathy, is where our feelings seem to stand.
Apathy, forget about giving out a helping hand.
The world goes ‘round and nothing seems to move me.
Black and white is an overstatement for what I see.
Apathy, Beirut went to hell, and all I can say is “oh well”.
Apathy, the wall came tumbling down, I guess for them that was swell.
Sorrow for the dead is appropriate at a funeral to see.
Love is also nice too, but what I always have with me,
Apathy. My sense long since numbed away.
Apathy, I really don’t care about anything you can say.
Trying to uphold your opinions is tiring and overrated.
To float on a cloud not caring is the position I have stated.
Apathy, London got blitzed, so I just watched the fires burn.
Apathy, nothing you teach me can be interesting enough to learn.
It’s really not that bad, and it’s really not that great.
But I believe this feeling is for all time is in everyone’s fate
Apathy, when emotions never seem to bend.
Apathy, lacking interesting in everything, so this poem must end.

(that last line is a bit too cliche for my liking)
