Contemplating Life Through the Milky Way

    At night here
    The Milky Way lays out
    a great ribbon against
    the deepest blue sky
as Ursa Major invites me to drink
    from cool water reserves.

I am mesmerized by the magic
    played out
    in this ever turning sky
to know that I am the one turning
to know that the stars I am looking at
    may actually have died out
    millions of years ago.

    The source of soul
may too die but still the soul
    travels on
    and on
    and on
    until a new source
    can be born
then too we travel on and on
    form morphing
    over and
    over and
    over
    until nirvana maybe
    or heaven maybe
    or hades maybe
maybe we are absorbed back into
    a food chain
    and maybe afterlife then
    is becoming other life
    through this osmosis.

    Bathing

    Funny how I missed
    the feeling
    walking up
    the wash
    to bathe
    gritty
    just the gritty sand
    and flip flops
    clacking
    driving
    me to
    cleanliness.

Thank you everyone for the feedback, I have been trying to work through a writer's block lately, these poems are actually a couple of months old. I wrote them while I was on the Hopi Reservation in AZ doing volunteer work this summer. If anyone would like to find out more about helping our American Indian brothers and sisters check out these websites. www.voicesofthepeople.org or www.bmis.org
