My son's about to turn one and I'm thinking of having a Wiccaning ceremony. There are two problems - 1, I don't have a circle and I rarely do ritual alone, I prefer to go to an open circle - and 2, I'm actually leaning more toward the general Pagan side of things than Wiccan. Would there be any real point to a Wiccaning? What can I do to commemorate the anniversary of his birth if I don't do a Wiccaning? I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks!

If you read around this forum you'll find the answer to this question.[IMG]

I think you've answered your own dilemma. Looking for advice? Find yourself a druid. They are at least twice as good as the average clergyperson at organizing and orating any ceremony on a moments notice.

Kabir said, "I do not quote from scriptures, I simply see what I see." This is just me, and I don't know you nor your son, but doing a Wiccaning to me just seems like a plastic, meaningless thing. The most pagan thing to do would just celebrate with whatever feels natural to you. There are many things you could do, like plant a tree symbolizing the growth of your son, etc. The point is you must imbue it with your son's life, and I don't think that doing some tired ritual will help when it's causing this much conflict with your current practices. Creating your own ritual will be much more potent, magically and spiritually speaking.

Of course, if a Wiccaning does seem the most natural thing to do, then it probably is. It just didn't seem (from what you said) that that was the case.

nothing better than creating your own ritual :) light a candle, have a chant, and encourage the family and friends you do invite to participate.
