hey, I just stumbled on this interesting website while I was looking up some stuff about absinth. I noticed the forums and decided to take a look around. I can see most of you are people from the US. I myself live in Belgium. Yeah I know thats quit a distance hehe =), but I thought since Im wandering around here anywayz, I figured Id have a talk with you guys. I never communicated with american people before, although I think there is one in my kungfu class, but he rarely shows up. And if he does show up we have to train, no time for talking =D. But hey, what I was wondering about... here in Belgium, we hear and read so much about other countrys, mostly negative things... bad things. I have to search the internet to find out some positive and interesting things about other countrys. The reputation that America holds in this country is far from good. When people talk about America and its people they joke most of the time and tell me how dumb most of the people really are (specially when it comes to president Bush). Even my dutch teacher told me, how strange the mentality is in the US, mostly because of the religious factor. But nothing bad really, he said it was a wonderfull place, but it was just "strange". Because we are such a small country, I dont think other countrys know so much about us. I could be wrong ofcourse but I got the idea that we are more the ones in the background that are observing the rest of the world, and that many people from the US, are in much much more knowledge and attention of their own country and less less over the rest of the world. I think because of this, belgiums easily put things in perspective, everything is understandable for us, because here its mostly about hearing and reading and watching and then gossip about it. Then we can draw conclusions and we think: "ahh ok, so thats how your NOT supposed to do it". And so we lead a more serious life. That is also why, I think, that here in Belgium people have more problems with thereselves, and expressing themselves. Im still young, just turned 18 and so there is alot I have to learn, and explore about in this world. Maybe I just got this idea because I only hang out with the younger group of the population. Id like to explain so much more but I have my final exam tommorow so Im better of studying =P. So anywayz, What do you guys think about europe? take care, -ryan
wow.. im not sure about gossip as being a reliable source for decision making but i do agree about the sad state america is in.. not just with our current president but with people in general... im not going to go into a huge rant about america right now so i'll just say hey... hey... ryan whats up?
