A while back someone posted a link to another thread, on a different website, which discussed taking powdered shrooms in a shot of lemon juice to yield effects that were roughly 5X greater than had the shrooms simply been eaten. I decided I had to test it. After my buddy's last grow, I was left with 6.4 grams of dried shrooms. I ate 4.2g and had a great trip. It was a normal 4g experience. Last night, we decided to try the lemon juice with the remaining 2.2g. I purchased two "large" lemons and freshly squeezed the juice into 2 glasses. There was roughly 1.5 oz of juice in each glass. I then split the powdered shrooms between the glasses and away we went. Within 15 minutes the shrooms began to kick to in. The shrooms hit with amazing intensity after 45 minutes.5 hours later my trip was all done. The only issue I had was, at early points in the adventure, it felt like the trip wasn't going to take off. The experience was stronger than the original trip of 4.2g. So my 1.1g with a 79 cent lemon really surprised me. As a side note, it was the most amazing mushroom trip of my life, but I attribute that to the girl I tripped with. happy journeys
Surface area is much greater when in powder form, so it hits you all at once. That's what I'd attribute that to. I think you could take the powder with any liquid and have the same affect.
Ive have also heard that making it with lemon juice can really intensify it, havent tried it though. Im pretty sure it works better than just normal tea or something.
bump, people should read what the show has tested, if you didn't know about this. A harder trip from less substance.
I've read about this at Shroomery. It seems pretty subjective though... basically people are split 50/50, some saying it works, some insisting it doesn't. Some chalk this up to merely placebo... I mean, I forget the exact numbers, but a lot of people who were given a placebo sugar pill in an acid test actually thought they were tripping on LSD... Haven't tried it though, so I don't really have much to add. I'm not looking for another psychedelic experience for a while, but when I am, I'll keep this is mind.
One of the best trips I had was ground up shrooms in orange juice, it seems that anything acidic is good.
If I remember about consuming mescaline containing cacti- it was recomended that you take something acidic with the cactus because the alkaloids in the cactus are basic and so eating something acidic will balance your stomach ph. this may also be the case with mushrooms.
difficult to belive seeing how your stomach has acid already in it, but there might be something else in lemons or citrus friuts in general that can help stop break down of the psilocybin or change psilocin to psilocybin faster and lead to a stronger and shorter trip. a thought is to find someone who has don shrroms but doesn't know about the lemon jucie thing and see if they trip more or not. hell couldn't hurt to try though. *edit* rat that could be why you get sick after eatting them, or it could help get it in your system faster....
Yes I do believe eating something acidic decreases the nausea, well with cactus anyway. I did shrooms 2 months ago without lemon juice and tripped balls. I will soon embark on another mushroom adventure and this time will try it with lemon juice. I picked the mushrooms at different times- aprox 3 weeks later from the same patch so seasonal variation of potency will vary. the experiment you describe could only be legit if someone tested the theory with home grown shrooms at the same dose. Btw after some quick research I found nothing to support the myth, nothing on erowid, and after a google search the first thing that came up was a thread from the hipforums Lemons have many health benefits so my suggestion would be to eat the mushrooms withlemon anyway.
I saw one post on the shroomery were some one lost there ego for like 2 hours on there "normal" dose when using lemon jucie with it...4g was the does.
i did shrooms and orange juice while driving up the tallest mountain in MA listening to the mars volta. mmmmmmm
i just saw another trip report of someone takeing shrroms with lemon juice experminting and said he went to level 5 or higher, he didn't know about the effect was playing with tast at the time he says. but reported that the trip was shorter like 4 hours. mabe it aids in digestion and is a catalist* *edit* driving while on shrooms particuarly up a mountin may not be very smart or safe.....
I've never tried this and am a little skeptic but after reading this thread its a must try for my next trip. thanks everyone.
i've come across mushroom enthusiasts recommending this many times in the past year or two, but it still isnt incredibly well known as far as i can tell. those that have tried it often claim they were also skeptical and tried it simply to see if it worked, because a worst case scenario still involves a mushroom trip, just a milder one than hoped for. i am also skeptical, but keep hearing people say that it surprisingly does somehow work. i have never tried it, and am quite tempted to do so sometime soon as an alternative to my usual tea ritual.
sounds like there might be a run on OJ and lemons at Stop & Shop. Best go get yours now before they sell out kids.
Its def. not a placebo effect. I don't know why it works for only some people, but it has to do with the Ph of what you soak the mushrooms in, not with powdering them. Lemon juice makes it 3-5 times stronger, grapefruit 2 times; probably because the differences in acidity. The theory is that the higher acidity premetabolizes the psilocybin into psilocin so it hits you harder.
