Legend has it that Lewis Carrol wrote Alice In Wonderland while under the influence of amanita muscaria mushrooms.

You may be right. I just found this. It says that Mordecai Cooke, a friend of Lewis Carroll's, had experienced Amanitas and enfluenced the story.

"In Victorian times travelers returned with intriguing tales of the use of fly agaric by people in Siberia, Lapland, and other areas in the northern latitudes. One of the first was reported by the mycologist Mordecai Cooke, who mentioned the recycling of urine rich in muscimol in his A Plain and Easy Account of British Fungi (I862). Harding points out that Cooke was a friend of Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll), the author of the fantastic children's story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (I865). Almost certainly, this is the source of the episode in Alice where she eats the mushroom, where one side makes her grow very tall and the other very small," Harding says. "This inability to judge size—macropsia— is one of the effects of fly agaric."

An allegation arose at some point that Carroll used the fungus ergot, which is what LSD was eventually derived from, can induce psychoactive experiences at large enough quantities, and was used as a medical treatment during the 19th century. While some artists and poets have been inspired by hallucinogenic drugs, Lewis Carroll was probably just a brilliant man with an incredible imagination—there is no factual evidence for the allegation that Carroll took psychoactive drugs. Similar allegations exist for Robert Lewis Stevenson during his writing of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), but again not based on factual evidence.

see alot for people say all these different types of drugs thats he "might" have done he did not use any recreational drugs ever in his life, tho he might have been a pedophil, his storys were for children not some weird ass drug trip they were pure imagination and thats what he wanted

lewis carroll could have used opium regularly.. its was quite common in the victorian era to smoke opium, but that doesnt necceraly explain his imagination... id bet the mostly likly answer is that he is just a genious.. C.S. Lewis wasnt on drugs, but he was certainly very creative... i think that we get this sterotype that people have to be on drugs to be really creative

everybody hears different things about which drug c.s. lewis was on when he wrote alice and wonderland. my english teacher said that he might have been smoking hashish alot when he wrote it. i really do not care, i just know that i like that story. i watched a live action movie of it and whoopi goldberg was in it. a bunch of celebrities, but pretty trippy. i liked it better than the animated in some ways.

Well i've heard he was on shrooms when he wrote it, but i 've never heard this from a real source so it could just ledend. Also he was DEFINITLY NOT ON ACID!!! Acid was forst synthiesed by a guy named Dr Hoffmann in sweden around 1938. Its psycadelic properties were not found until ten years later. If I recall correctly, ALice in Wonderland was written in the 1800s, much before LSD was usable
