My son is 2 and a half and has cradle cap. Weeks ago I noticed it in his hair and he has a full head of curley hair so I didn't see it right away. I bathe him and wash his hair all the time so at first I was really grossed out by it. I scruubed his head and it went away and then today I noticed it again..icky! So I decided to cut his hair so it would be easier to clean his head ( don't try that at home folks) lets just say he's got hair but it's buzzed. I had to go get it fixed after that...but anyways anyone else have this happen? I have been reading a lot about the oil treatment of it. I hope it gose away soon.
I so wish I could help ...... ALexander never had it and Jillians head ws full of baby achne and its still flackey....(some of it looks like it could be infected but it isnt...rather odd really.. :S ) If his head is buzzed all the way to the salp try moisterizing his head maybe???
switch shampoos. now. it'll only get worse, i promise. i had the same problem with damien when he was a toddler. it seemed the more i scrubbed the worse it got. the culprit is sodium laurel or laureth sulphate. it is highly toxic and used in everything as a foaming agent. i don't care if the label says it's made from corn or coconut oil, there is nothing "safe" or "natural" about it. use vitamin E oil, or olive oil, gently rubbed into the scalp, and a fine-toothed comb, to carefully remove the cradel cap. it may hurt & the scalp may be a little red & irritated where it comes off. if it is really bad, it might take chunks of hair with it. work slowly, carefully, and lovingly, and keep telling your kid what a great job he's doing as you're combing it out. the vitamin E will help to remove it, as well as condition the hair & help soothe & heal the irritated scalp. switch to a shampoo with no sodium laurel or sodium laureth sulphate. if you have soft water, try jr liggit's shampoo bar, or diluted dr, bronner's baby liquid castile soap. we found a children's shampoo called "hair brain" that came in fun fragrances & did not contain the sodium laurel/laureth sulphate. check in health food stores & co-ops. if there is still a problem, consider if your child might have another sensitivity or allergy, like a food allergy. but for us, switching the shampoos made all the difference in the world.
My daughter had it pretty bad, too. I agree with kitty fabulous, I switched to Burt's bees buttermilk baby shampoo bar, and it has all disappeared.
