Hi, I recently bought 250g of unenhanced leaves. I got unenhanced because I'm considering growing the stuff, and I wanted an accurate experience of what I'd be getting if I did. This hardly does anything to me, though. I've got a pipe, which makes it hard to inhale a lot of, and since I have to hold it in for a long time it kind of sucks when I exhale and realise I wasn't inhaling a whole lot. Also, when it does move me somewhere, I'm not coordinated enough to take more hits of it, but I'm still not at the level of effects I wish to achieve. I've tried chewing the stuff, but I find it too hard to keep it all in one ball in my mouth without choking or gaging on it. I wanted to make tea out of it, and eat the leaves after making the tea, but I read that this wouldn't be too effective. What should I do? I read somewhere that you can make extractions by mixing it well with alcohol, so I've got a bottle filled halfway with a gooey 80-proof vodka and ground salvia mix, shaking quite often. I plan to strain it well and either swish the resulting liquid in my mouth for half an hour or pour it over some leaves, would either of these work? Does anybody have better suggestions of what I could do? Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, it appears that google is our friend. I'm currently dryng the salvia-alcohol tea and going to bake it, as recommended on Erowid.
Little success. The stuff I smoked didn't get us slightly buzzed (my girlfriend and I), and she ended up pulling some pot out of her purse. Here's what I did: 1) Mix a very large handful of salvia leaves with equal or less Vodka, 80 proof. 2) Shook it as much as I could for a few hours. 3) Strained the resulting tea in a glass dish (probably a bad idea). 4) Set it over a fan to wait for the alcohol to dry 5) Put it in the oven at 300F to wait for it to get crusty 6) Scraped as much as I could off with a fork (not much, most of it stayed on the dish and stained it) 7) Katy the first half, I would be her sitter. She didn't feel any effects, so I had the rest, and didn't feel any either. In fact, it was less effects than we felt when we were smoking regular leaves. Anybody know what might have gone wrong?
1) alcohol too weak...everclear or denatured. 2) soak time too short. 3-extractions over several days each. heating alcohol once in each extraction helps. 3) use small amount of dry leaf to clean glass pan...lose nothing.
Thanks for the tips, I'm definitely going to try that. But for number 2, how much can you heat alcohol without it burning up? I was afraid of putting it in the oven because I'd lose a lot of stuff.
heat is just an option. warm alcohol disolves more that cold but don't do it if you can't do it safely. Just soak longer.
Acetone evaporates easily and will disolve more salviorin than alcohol, but beware of the vapors. They are highly flamable and are not very good for your health either. Using a fan will speed up evaporation. Acetone will evaporate even in sub-zero (celcius) temperatures. Add the extract to a small amount of salvia leaves and it will be much easier to handle than the dried extract itself.
why do you say that? cold acetone is preferred in extractions since it picks up less of the waxes and so "proportionally" more salvinorin, with less requirement for washes afterwards.
acetone...like all ketones, is a very reactive chemical. It enters into side reactions that are accelerated by heat, other than just being a solvent. Cold extraction is also pretty inefficient at getting it ALL. to get the whole goody it is better to to get the waxes, too and remove them seperately later if that is what you want to do..
I've heard that cooling it down will help break the cell walls, which is why colder extractions work better. Perhaps chilling, mixing, and warming would work better?
IS there really so much guess-work to this process gang? Or is this discussion just missing the proven recipe or qualified organic chemist's touch? honest question.
sphere uses chilled acetone he is the living buddha of salvinorin extractions some people have missed his tech google salvinorin extraction he also started a yahoo group
Really it is pesonal preference. I like getting all of the good stuff out. Chilled acetone works if you work QUICKLY and you don't do it twice. The waxes you are trying to avoid come off with warmth or time but the second run has already softened them so they still come off. The quick, cold, acetone is ineffecient IF you are trying to capture all of the salvanorin.
