I am for the monarchy... maybe not in previous times.. but i guess we would not have the present monarchy. Who the hell half of them are i have no idea.. are they a burden ? I think we have to contribute 1p maybe 2p a year to 'keep them' thats not bad for some of the tourism they bring..and of course the http://www.princes-trust.org.uk/
i personally think its something we should be proud of, its what makes britain britain. afterall we are one of the only countries in the world to have a royal family.
I'm for it - They honestly don't do any harm... as for the cost... well they bring in 99 % of all our tourists - who in turn bring in way more money than the monarchy cost. - Must say... I think it's time for Liz to step down as Queen... hand it over to Charlie... I personally think he would make a most splendid king.

I'm undecided. They dont acutally DO a lot except get given our taxes, so that makes me want to say get rid of them. On the other hand though, their a huge part of the UK and bring in LOTS of tourists which of course is good for the economy. Also theres the whole national pride thing, believe me there nothing better than being in a stadium with a few thousand people on their feet singing 'God Save The Queen'
I can't speak for the U.K. but the colonies need to break all ties - I'm Canadian and every year thousands of our tax dollars go to support our governor general and her regiment.
Amen plus they dont do anything so whats there to be proud about. there not even English there nazis. yeah mabye back in the 1xxxs they were useful but now the government does everything. the kings and princes used to go to war but now their just pussies they would rather let the citizens die protecting this county than to do it themselves. yeah they might bring in a lot of tourist but i doubt any of them see the queen. i think tourisim would sore if they just got rid of them and opened buckingham palace to the public. anyway england needs a new face all we have done is invade and kill other countries queens and kings just so that ours would be the only one "New Zeland." the monarchy has a very negative history unfortunately. They just slow us down Presidency is the way forward.

I couldn't care less about the monarchy. It all got screwed up when Cromwell got into power anyways. Lots of the crown jewels, valuables etc were destroyed/sold off whilst Cromwell (and his son after him) were in power.
I voted "Yes" because I can't see Britain becoming a 'Republic'.What would you call it? "The People's Republic of Britain?".Would Blair be it's first President?. I know the Monarchy costs the British taxpayer a lot of ££££s .There's the Polo fields to maintain,Helicopters to polish,Castles to vacuum etc. But the alternatives are equally as hideous.The Royal Family's homes are the main attraction to tourists,as are any glimpses of them.They are a tabloid 'soap opera' entertaining many with their calamities.But most important of all;they are a safeguard in case President Blair seizes power as a maniacial dictator.(You may well laugh,but you don't know his dark side!!!).
I'm sorry for them, they can't help being a wierd relic of history, i think we should give them enough to live on, a bit more than Job Seeker's Allowance and a tiny castle each. Do the royal family really attract loads of tourist money? it's not like they say hello or any thing, can you even go in their palaces? We should nationalise alot of their assets, have raves in buckingham palace, with a really good reggae room. That would generate loads of revenue.
I dont think that fact is accurate. I also dont think they 'bring in tourists'... True, people may come and see buckingham palace.. But they would do that if the queen didnt take residence there - look at the palace of versaille outside paris - no royal family lives there and yeah it draws in the tourists yearly.. In fact, opening up such palaces could generate even more revenue due ticket prices.. The royal family are a useless drain on resources.. this word pride I have a big problem with..Why would we be proud of them just because it makes 'britain britain'? I'm not proud to be british with its history of oppression and colonialism.. Im glad I live here and possess a british passport - its useful and this country is relatively free in comparison to others..But thats not reason to have a royal family. Why should they get to live such luxurious lifestyles? have they earnt it? For a supposedly democratic society.. it doesnt seem to me to be very democratic hehe rant over.. sorry
