Right his name is Roonie, he is a snow-shoe and 9 yrs old. A few weeks ago he was sleeping on the soaf and fell off!!! but when he tried to get up again he couldn't move his back legs.

I didnt see it this time but my dad said it happened this morning - i took him to the vets last time but they couldnt find anything wrong at all - now my question is has anyone had this happed to their animals.

When it happens he is normally asleep so i dunno if cats can get a dead leg like we can, when it happened last time he seemed kind of dazed but then came out of it in about 10 minutes.

I have checked him over this morning e.g reflexes, pupils, tail etc. and all seems well - its very very wierd though!!!! apart from that he is kinda ok - a bit dopey normally though

A neurlogical (sp?) thing maybe? Maybe he had some kind of stroke or something. Did he hit his head when he fell? Maybe he got a concussion, that can effect the limbs.

Nope he didnt hit his head or anything - well he fell of the sofa so it was a soft landing, its really wierd though. The vet couldnt find anything wrong with him at all, he did suggest doing a brain scan and things but he is a a bit of ferel cat, like he comes in the house and eats and sleeps here but is distant - its kinda wierd.

But we chatted to the vet about it and he agreed that it wouldnt be a good idea to sedate him and things. So we are just gonna wait and see if it happens again i think we are gonna have to take him again.

im sure that cats can experiance a "fallen asleep" limb just like we do......however we tend to be positioned a certain way for that to happen and i dont know if cats ever position themselves so that they experiance blood loss in one area??? thats an interesting question, but i would say its likely.

i know that sometimes an ear infection can cause loss of motor skills....but you said you took him to the vet and im sure they checked that out.

if it continues i would be worried and i would take him to a different vet to get a second opinon.

This happened to my first dog Peggy, and my vet like yours couldn't figure it out. She
lived to the age of 17. Hope all goes well for you.

Are their ticks in England? B/c that use to happen when one of our cats got a particulary bad bite off a tick.
