"Can a blind man lead a blind man? Won't they both fall into a ditch? A disciple follows his teacher until his own inner eye opens. Once the disciple's inner eye opens, he is exactly like his teacher, and he can walk on the right path by himself." - Jesus Taken from a Stephen Mitchell book, called "Jesus: What He Really Said and Did" Supposedly originated from the earlier Greek text. I leave its implications to the reader.
i love that, burn, thanks... and the only thing left is, how to have faith in one's master. how does an ignorant soul recognize a truly awakened one?
Well, I'm not an 'enlightened one' . . . But it sure seemed people recognized Buddha and Jesus. I suppose there is something about them . . . Not just in their energy and spirit, But also in their words and speech. Where do they point you to? What is their message? It's good to question them. If they don't have answers to critical Questions about their 'teaching', or if the answers are more "Follow me, I know all. You are my sheep" -kinda deal . . . These are all just possibilities.
thanks; yeah this is what i have the most difficulty understanding... it seems that if we are still in the midst of ignorance than we can't and shouldn't trust ourselves to recognize purity. i mean, people always follow their ignorant 'feelings' and look where they end up; people think of all sort of crazed cult leaders as masters of the truth, why believe that your feeling towards your master is any more valid than theirs? i mean, if you choose to have jesus as your master, you must have complete faith in him, like with any teacher. i may be a doubter, but i don't see the other option as being a heck of a lot better for me. love,
I question a lot too . . . I think these 'awakened' ones sorta point things out about yourself. They point inwardly. A teacher merely points out things that help you start to 'see'. They help you explore yourself so that you may find your own way through the blindness and ignorance in which we roam. Then, it is up to you to open your eyes. You get me? A teacher should not ask for blind faith, rather, the 'follower' should actually be gaining vision with each step of the way. Teaching is not about the teacher. This is a good way to distinguish between a 'blind man leading a blind man'. Not to say only these 'authentic' teachers can help. We all catch a glimpse. Its up to us to discern, to doubt, to question all authority, inwardly and outwardly. The true authority isn't authority at all.
