Vegemite has been owned by Kraft before WW2 but does it matter?

If you mean Nuttelex margarine, according to Choice magazine it is one of the worst offenders when it comes to the percentage of trans fats, in fact half the margarines sold in Australia could not be legally sold in Denmark where there are limits on the amount trans fats that foods can contain.

According to Wikipedia, kraft have devised a process of hardening veg oils without producing trans fats but it still contains residues of aluminium and nickel oxides from the catalysing process.

    Check this link out,

Anyway getting back to Vegemite, I sometimes use to make gravy.

Hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it!
I hate it in a - Capital H-A-T-E - kinda way blah only thing i find its good for is numbing my ulcers when i get them on my inner lip...

When i was a kid i LOVED vegemite though... A vegemite and banana sandwich was my favorite thing (ew). I was one of those kids that had a permanent Vegemite smile (you know the ones you get after you take a HUGE bite into a sandwich) but as i got older i started hating the stuff... along with bananas... BAH never try to feed me vegemite OR bananas

I do enjoy nutella though... Enjoy it in a - capital L-O-V-E- kinda way.

    *They call me Caramello.... KOAAAALAAA*

  13. Vegemite rocks my socks off!

Bilby, what did margarine do to hurt you?

Its ok, I eat butter just because i trust what people like you say...but what are the real defined problems?

It made me depressed and in turn caused me to smoke.

  15. How so? Did your body react?

Interestingly I have a slight allergy to dairy products but I get far worse reactions (tiredness, blocked nose, head ache, confusion) after eating margarine than when i do with butter.

yum , love vegemite but in small doses, it is an aqquired taste because its so strong and you have to spread it very thinly. its good on toast with butter or just by the spoon, i had to go get some after reading this LOL ... care to explain about the eskimos?

I don't know the details of the bio-chemistry, but looking at the list of ingredients of both is enough to make my mind up.

i like vegemite but only if there is butter along with it and the vegemite canNOT cover the whole thing you are eating.

the best is either white toast caked with butter, and then put a skidmark of vegemite across and to the edges. (wholemeal is of course better but doesnt taste as well with vegemite)

the other best is caking liberal amounts of both butter AND vegemite, and squeezing them between some sayo's i cant believe no one has mentioned THE WORMS yet

ps. the whole 'vegemite is nutritious' is pretty bs in my oppinion. despite being healthy per 100g, the amount you spread on a piece of toast leaves you with so few chemicals that its hardly even part of a diet, its the bread and butter youre getting more out of hehe but obviously some is better than none

  20. It has high amounts of vitamin B which i believe might be added, crucial for a well functioning brain. But, of course there are far greater foods as far as nutrition goes.

Who likes small amounts of vegemite on butter soaked crumpets?
