so i'll probably have to give up "my" ipod

about a week or so ago i found a working ipod laying in the snow during a drunken walk around campus...at first i was excited to have it, figuring there was no way to find the owner. it's a $320 dollar special edition u2 ipod with like 20gb on it, so i figured whoever lost it is pretty bummed....

well then i realized its got a serial number, and a friend reminded me that people generally register their ipods with apple so they get their warranties and all that stuff. so i got to thinking...its nice to find it, but it sucks to lose it...if i give it back i'm not losing anything because i didnt have an ipod to begin with, but some poor shmuck laid down $320 worth of their hours at work for this thing, i should at least TRY to find the owner.

so i called customer service and they looked it up. its registered to someone living in my town, and they're gonna try to call him. they already got someone to take a message, but they're gonna call back in a few hours and try to get ahold of him so they can actually speak to him. they're gonna give him my email address (by my permission) so if he wants it back he just needs to shoot me an email.

looks like i'll probably be giving it back, because if someone spent a few hundred bucks on it and took the time to register it, it's probably because they wanted to keep it! i doubt he won't contact me.

oh well, i figure this world sucks largely because people are too self-serving and inconsiderate, and not many people are trustworthy these days. so if i give it back, hey, at least i get to feel good about doing something nice. and hell, he's got secretaries (who the apple people talked with) and has money to blow on ipods, so hell, i might even get a nice little reward or something...hell, 20 bucks would make my day

I find tools all the time left by crews working on houses at times and I leave them in the open, if no one claims them in a week I keep it...
Tthese are minor tools..if Id find a costly one id track them down.

If its like my new laptop, its got got an enbeded code which when hooked to the web in any form can be found if needed....who knows........serial numbers are for somthing....

 

i doubt it but maybe. i figure though that it's already been about a week or so since they lost it (been like 9 or 10 days since i found it) and they may have already filed to have it replaced on warranty or whatever. who knows?

theres the possibility i'll get to keep it, and if i go for more than two weeks with no email regarding it, i'll assume it's mine. but i wont start deleting crappy music until probably three weeks or a month just to make sure.

 

aww thats really good of you - i proberly would have done the same thing. You never know he might be really good looking and you might get it on - so the ipod brought you together lol. Or he might say well thanks for finding it here have 50 pound lol

 

I always figure that good things happen to people who do good things...
