Hi, I need to find a really easy veg cook book. My cousin is Vegetarian, not Vegan. She has put on a lot of weight because her family won't support her choice. They think it's just a "phase". So they don't make her any special meals, then she ends up eating just rice and whatever veggies they have. They are a fast food, hamburger/tuna helper eating family. As a result she has gained a lot of weight and feels horrible since she gets no nutrition.

She comes over to my house at least once a week and I stuff her full of vegetarian cuisine. I am not veg, but I don't eat much meat.

Anyway I love to cook, but she doesn't really know how. Anyone know of a really easy vegetarian cookbook that a non-cook could easily use? Preferably with inexpensive dishes?

She did go to the doctor and now she's going to a nutritionalist. I hope they ragged out her family for not feeding her right. She is going to get a proper veg diet and they have to follow it.

we have a teen-geared "Munchie Madness" and the recipies in any beginner veggie book, including the freebie packets some societies have, are usually easy.
Read the recipie thrteads, too and perhaps make a custom cookbook for her.
the first step, really, is whole foods. brown rice, not white. Maybe get her a small rice cooker for Hanukkah/ xmas?

when i was in the book store a long time ago i picked up a book that was exactly what you are looking for. infact i think it was titled "vegetarianism for teens" or something to that effect. im sorry i cant remember exactly. but the entire book was geared around easy cooking as well as other issues that a teenager would likely face with vegetarianism. if you check out that section in your local book store than you may come across it. it was a paperback and relatively thin for a book......not too many pages at all. it was the only book ive ever seen specifically for teens so it probably wont be too hard to find.

go to your local bookstore and just start skimming through what they have. (i have accumulated a great collection that way.) the last time i was at the bookstore i found a ton of books for vegetarian familes, college students, kids, teens, newbies... even a few books by various musicians. also try an online search www.vrg.org and peta has some family stuff (depending on how you feel about that prganization is a personal choice).

my family has so deeply set against my decision and the hardest part of the adjustment was lacking support from the majority of them. its great to see someone who actually is supportive.

i read "the teen's guide to going vegetarian" in the 7th grade and it helped me a lot. i think it has some easy recipes in it, but it's mostly how to deal with the familial pressure to continue eating meat, along with peer pressure, etc. it's a very helpful guide and was easy to read. have YOU talked to her parents about this? maybe if they heard a third-party's opinion on their behavior, they might change their tune. i hope the nutritionist chewed out her folks big-time.
