Does anyone remember SRC?("The Angel Song" Great tune!). Then there was Chocolate Watchband, Moby Grape, Fever Tree, Ultimate Spinach and many others. Recall anymore?(I mean, that were more out of the mainstream.)

There are hundreds of obscure and semi-obscure psychedelic bands from the 1960's. If you want to hear them, check out the compilations listed in the thread about '60s compilations. You'll find all kinds of cool little gems in those collections.

Spirit is not a obscure band but they seldom are mention here in this forums since most of the people here were not even born "20/30 years ago" . of course and a bunch of others.

That's completely irrelevant. Visitors to this forum, most of who were not born "20/30 years ago," listen to a great deal of psych and garage that is more obscure than the likes of Spirit. When you were born means nothing.

John's Children, featuring Marc Bolan who later formed T-Rex, right? I do remember them. And the Pretty Things and of course, Strawberry Alarm Clock. I was also a huge fan of The Incredible String Band, who, ironically, received a cold reception at Woodstock.

My kids are in their teens and they love Spirit! I saw them only once in 1973,but they were great. Sad news about Randy California last year.

Of all the obscurities my friends and I have mined, the greatest obscurity that I've heard is the Axe album from the UK band of the same name from 1969. Floyd meets acid folk in a lonely, hanted English village with stunning distorted guitar. Other greats include Music Emporium, Freeborne - Peak Impressions, Gypsy - In The Garden and too many others to mention.

yeah there really are so many great bands. some american bands are fairly obscure to australians but had big hits in America, and vice versa.

A good psychedelic band from the early 90's is RED TEMPLE SPIRITS. Kinda influenced by early Pink Floyd, 13th Floor Elevators, Tibet, and Black Sabbath.

According to this pocket-sized book I have...

10 San Francisco Bands of the Psychedelic Era Lost to Posterity
    Ballpoint Banana
    Celestial Hysteria
    Colossal Pomegranate
    Evergreen Tangerine
    Freudian Slips
    Frumious Bandersnatch
    Peanut Butter Conspirancy
Strawberry Alarm Clock (in the first Austin Powers, when they're in the dance club, their song "Incense and Peppermints" is playing)
    Transatlantic Chicken Wicket No. 5
    Truman Coyote.

    :)
