Hey everyone! This is my first time posting here... So at school today the lunch assisstant guy tells me that the patties they have that appear to be breaded chicken patties are actually veggie patties. So I ate one, and it did taste similar to chicken, but I couldn't really tell because I have not had a chicken patty in a long time as I am vegan. I am kind of upset about this....what if it was really chicken??? Also, assuming that it was actually a veggie "chicken" patty, are most of these "chicken" patties vegan? Or do they include dairy and/or eggs?! Please help me out! Thanks!
i would assume you did actually eat chicken. i'm not sure why you didn't research what the thing was made of before you believed this person who doesn't actually prepare the food, but i'm thinking you did eat real chicken...in most school systems there is usually a way you can find out the nutritional contents of the food they serve as some children have special dietary needs. i would try to find the number to your school system's foodservice department so you can inquire. when you DO find out if it was real meat or not, i'd inform Mr. Assistant that he misinformed you and that he needs to stop misinforming people about what the food is made of...i doubt it is a veggie patty because if it were, it would be advertised as such. some kids are allergic to soy and other vegetables, so they would have to say outwardly that it was a soy patty. i think this guy was talking out his ass... some of the fake chicken patties you can find are vegan and some are not. i'm not vegan (i'm ovo-lacto), so it's never concerned me, but the only way you can tell is by looking at the ingredients list. really, the best way to avoid your lunchroom mishap is to start taking your lunch to school. that's what i did since the cafeteria at my high school's "vegetarian" options were usually a crappy iceberg lettuce salad and a "veggie sub" (a hotdog bun with various "vegetables" on it...oh yummy). easy foods to take to school are hummus and pita, fruit, bagels (you can find vegan ones), baked tofu, carrot sticks, and other things as well. i wish you luck in your quest to stay healthy at school
lots of chicken patties and fish patties/ sticks are made with BOTH soy and flesh. Read the Fisher Boy box sometime.
When I was in high school we had a vegetarian club that was successful at getting the administration to open a little section for soups and salads and sometimes soy meat.....but this was a school that is very diverse and has people from more countries than i could name so they were very sensitive to different peoples needs.....my suggestion would be to start a vegetarian club .
Unless he was referring to a specific vegetarian option, he was probably either lying to you to get you to eat it or being stupid. It kind of reminds me of people who insist McDonald's hamburger patties don't contain any real meat because a "friend of a friend" works there or something. Most of these rumors are false. Honestly, if this was just a lunch assistant telling you this, it's highly likely you ate chicken. Next time, ask for the ingredients.
I don't know... research it However, when I was younger at my junior high, the only burgers they served were veggie burgers.
Well, there are these 'chik'n patties' from morningstar, which actually taste a bi tlike chicken. I think they've got egg in them though...
