Hey, I have a quick question... I've been on the pill since I was about 15 (I'm 23 now) because I was getting ovarian cysts and I have the periods from hell. Anyway a couple of years ago I switched from Marvelon to Diane 35 because my skin was breaking out, and Diane is good for pelvic issues AND skin. Yay! Then my gyne took me off them a few months ago because you can only be on them for a little while. Ok, no problem. I tried Alesse, but because I go continuous for 3 pkgs at a time (instead of stopping to have a period each month, because my periods are dreadful) Alesse wasn't heavy enough and I bled through. Now I'm on Select, which is great, my skin is freaking out a little - I miss Diane - but I'm not bleeding or anything. Excellent. That's the backstory. Lately I've been having some cramping in my legs, and they're falling asleep a lot, and I'm starting to worry. Part of my pelvic condition IS related to circulation, but I'm also wondering if it's the pill, if I'm suddenly going to get a blod clot and a stroke or something. I try to get up and walk around a lot so my legs aren't hanging down as much, but being a full-time student doesn't accomodate that very much. Is something I need to go to the doctor about? Or is it normal? To the best of knowledge it didn't happen with the other pills, which I think is why I'm a little worried. I've been noticing it more at night, laying in bed and whatnot. Basically it's a feeling of my leg muscles feeling tight and my actually legs feeling swollen and gigantic, even though (from the outside) they haven't changed at all. ... ?
No, I don't smoke. It's getting worse now, I called my gyne to ask her what she thinks...yesterday the pain in my calves was so worse I could barely walk, and I was having a pain in my chest and left hand....
Well, you need to have that looked at immediately! You want to insist on a ultrasound / doplar. Blood clots in the leg do make your calf hurt like HELL, if it lodges above the calf, like behind the knee. If that has happened your foot should be numb or in pain and cold. Do not delay in seeking help, if you think this it what it is. I nearly lost my lower leg (the tattoo'd one), foot, toes because of this. It is very rare in young people so often overlooked when being diagnosed. And you gals, don't take the pill if you smoke cigs or are over 35. It's a risk.
