Well, in a few months I'm off to university, and for the past year I've been saving up some money, but now it's Christmas... and you know what that means! It's time to cash in on some stuff. I figure why not get the stuff that is needed for a dorm room, right? My question is... what are some necessities for me to bring to a dorm room? What's the typical stuff you get when getting a dorm room? I know a couple things I need, like a mini fridge and a computer of course (both of which I already have ) but what should I put on my Christmas list for Santa to buy me. Any suggestions will be appreciated... and any fun stuff you think I should get for it is also appreciated. TJ
quarters for the laundry. a laundry bag. and most importantly, alcohol. actually, the only dorms i've ever been in (been in, not lived in.. i refuse to do that) are rather small so a mini fridge and a computer are the only main things in the room besides clothes and school supplies. .. dorms tend to smell funny, you could ask for febreeze. .. and flip flops for the shower.
LAVA LAMPS MAN, LAVA LAMPS. nothin says welcome to the dorm like a bubbling lava lamp, u gotta get some sweet posters too. that way, people that visit will know wut ur into
Don't go out and buy stuff. Going to college doesn't mean becoming more materialistic and consumerist, in fact it should be the opposite. Computer, stereo, and books. That's all you need, and I'm assuming you have all of those! As for santa, you should ask for donations to charities such as Oxfam America. If you really "need" to get more material posessions, ask for things that will be useful. For example, I'm hoping to get a raincoat or backpacking gear this shopping season. I'm a 2nd year at the University of Vermont, just for the record. Just my suggestions. Good luck!
Depends on what your allowed, or what you alread have. UNBC (University of Northern British Columbia) dorms are like small apartments with stoves and large fridges and everything [minus washer and dryer], but others won't allow you a hot plate so best you find that out first
An alarm clock is probably a must, flip-flops (as already mentioned), air freshener products (dorm rooms smell funky quite often), a fan for the window (but that depends on how hot it gets where you are and whether or not your dorm will have air conditioning), towels, bath products (of course), and music and movies are good things to entertain friends in a dorm room. Hope that helps.
Here in Holland there's no dorms, but university towns usually offer rooms, like special student's apartments. I have my own bedroom with a separate bigger living/studying room. There already was a free old private fridge for me in the kitchen I'm sharing with (only) 2 other guys. I didn't buy much, because I got a lot for the birthday just preceding my moving out, my grandmothers parted with some stuff they had in disuse themselves, and I had a lot already, and what I bought was usually second hand or else as cheap as possible. I actually got my current computer screen and my couch from the staircase where people leave their stuff after they move away again, and an old djembe from the big public garbage container. Anyways - have fun & good luck with it!
I going away to a university in 7 months also!! i am so excited to be on my own and to decorate my new dormroom...so since im in your situation i really cant answer your question but its coming and i cant wait! much love, kaytee
towels... you can, of course, use them to dry off... but they are also handy to stick 'neath the door...
