    "To The Hip Foums"

Allow me extend the welcome mat. I recently found "The Hip Forums" myself and I know what it’s like to be a newcomer. You don’t really know what to say or how to act. Read some of the threads so you can get the gist of what topics are being discussed. When you feel comfortable jump right in and get your feet wet. Nobody here is going to "Flame" you, that just isn’t tolerated here (unless it’s necessary) lol. We get some assholes here who just want to stir up bad vibes... From what I’ve found so far is that we are one big family with many brothers and sisters. Once again the doors open come on in, open up your heart and mind, put on some groovy tunes, kick back and stay awhile. Peace, Love & Great Big Hugs, DDR

    Witam (Hello) Magda!

I was born in Michigan (USA) and so were my parents, but my grandparents (on my father's side) were from Vilnius, Lithuania. So I'm one-half Lithuanian. Lithuania was a part of Poland, then a part of Russia. Now (since 1991) Lithuania is an indepedent nation. Most of my Lithuanian relatives married nice Polish people, so I have some Polish relatives. I don't speak (or write) Polish or Lithuanian.

My father changed our last name to make it easier to spell. I may be related to Jan Karol Chodkewicz (born: 1560 in Vilnius, Lithuania, died: September 24, 1621 in Chocim Castle, Poland. He was a famous politician, military commander, hetman and prominent szlachcic in 17th century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. WEBSITE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Karol_Chodkiewicz. Have you heard of him in your Polish history books?

Hamtramck, Michigan (USA) is an old Polish community, within the city limits of Detroit, Michigan, but many of these Polish people have moved more north of Detroit. Parma, Ohio (USA) is another Polish community, by Cleveland, Ohio. Within a few miles, from where I live, there are two Polish markets and a Polish Cultural Center.

In February, the Detroit area has "Fat Tuesday", or PACZKI DAY! Paczki is a deep fried doughnut, filled with jelly or jam and then covered in powered sugar or sugar glaze. I have an old Polish neighbor who made homemade PEIROGI. I have one Aunt who loves potato pancakes. I have little cousins (mostly Polish-part Lithuanian) who do traditional Polish dances at an annual Polish Festival, close to where I live. Very friendly people!

    Bawcie sie! (Have fun!)
