    "To The Hip Forums"

Let me extend the welcome mat. I recently found "The Hip Forums" myself and I know what it’s like to be a newcomer. You don’t really know what to say or how to act. Read some of the threads so you can get the gist of what topics are being discussed. When you feel comfortable jump right in and get your feet wet. Nobody here is going to "Flame" you, that just isn’t tolerated here (unless it’s necessary) lol. We get some assholes here who just want to stir up bad vibes... From what I’ve found so far is that we are one big family with many brothers and sisters. Once again the doors open come on in, open up your heart and mind, put on some groovy tunes, kick back and stay awhile. Peace, Love & Great Big Hugs, DDR

Hello, I'm Mark. From 1967-1971, I did not live in California. Of all places, I lived in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. I lived in a little redneck town in Oklahoma where everyone supported the war(67-68). I did too, after being under that kind of influence. However, in 1968, I transferred to a Lutheran school in Kansas where kids from all over the country lived in dormitories. I not only became exposed to different views on the Vietnam War, I was introduced to a whole different realm of music: The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Iron Butterfly and you name it. Even then, I never so much as touched a joint. (The big thing was to drink beer. The first time I saw someone smoke hash I stared at them as if they were aliens.) I spent the summer of '69 in Arkansas expanding my horizons musically. I graduated from High School in 1970 (I remember The Beatles Abbey Road, The White Album and Lennon's "Instant Karma" [OK-here's an obscure one. I remember a band called SRC that did one hell of a great song called "The Angel Song." Does anyone recall that?)

At any rate, I attended my first year of college in Kansas in '71. I had a good time.(I remember a bar we went to called Clare's and hearing songs like Free's "All Right Now," Bloodrock's "DOA" and Guess Who's "Share the Land" I also got turned on to King Crimson's "Court of the Crimson King.) What wonderful days.

I always regretted, however, not living in Haight-Ashbury. Did I miss anything? Some say I did, others say it was over rated. I also regret never having gone to Woodstock.

Anyway, that's it. Look forward to meeting all of you!

    Best,

    Mark
