Recycling at it's best. I made these from leftover flashing on our roof of the geodesic dome we're building. Cut the leaves out with snips, bent them with pliers to look like veins, punched holes in the top and viola. Then I used copper wire to put the glass beads on, made rings from the copper wire and put it all together. The first pair I heated with a propane torch and it turned black and a kind of pinkish color. The second I soaked overnight in vinegar and salt and it made gave it a nice green patina. I looove copper it's cheap, easy to manipulate and you can add so many finishes to it.
I made a necklace for my mother, earrings for everyone I know and I'm selling some on my site. I think I'm addicted to making leaves now!

Very nice, and I love the fact you employed a creative form of recycling to the process.

Aren't the edges sharp from the tin snips? Or do you do something to them to make them rounder?

I sanded the edges with metal sandpaper then filed them.

20 something gauge maybe 22. I had some stuff that was a little heavier gauge. It cut a little harder but it was nicer to work with. Copper is fairly soft anyway. I have jewelers torch and discovered that I can solder copper with copper wire with it. I haven't gotten the hang of that though. Copper conducts heat a little too well and it cools too quickly. It's hard to solder without making a mess of it.
